Pluses:

couple of decent songs, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Sharad Kelkar are class act

Minuses:

poor screenplay, Aditya Pancholi and Vivan Bhatena set new standards of overacting, Athiya is over the top in order to look too cute, Sooraj has bad dialogue delivery and same emotion throughout

Watch it if you can fight boredom for more than two hours for glimpse of Salman Khan at the end

Detailed Analysis:

Nikhil Advani has given some really big disappointments in last 10 years or so i.e. 'Salaam E Ishq', 'Chandani Chowk To China', 'Patiala House' and 'D Day'. And now for some strange reasons he has got responsibility of launching two star kids under the banner of super star in the remake of a super hit film.

Film has nothing new to offer. Its not a remake but a photocopy with poor quality of ink. Sooraj (Sooraj Pancholi) is goon (mentioned umpteen times in film because he does not look like one) and he falls in love with Radha (Athiya Shetty). Radha is daughter of Police IG (Tigmanshu Dhulia) and her brother (Sharad Kelkar) is a cop too. A convict Pasha (Aditya Pancholi) asks his trusted guy Sooraj to kidnap Radha so that he can break IG. And then usual love story between a kidnapper and victim followed by some unnecessary twists in 2nd half. Best thing about the film is Salman Khan song in end credit.

Performance wise Tigmanshu Dhulia is simply outstanding as he looks so classy and intense at the same time. Sharad Kelkar also scores with his restrained act. But sadly rest of the cast is completely out of sort; Aditya Pancholi fails miserably as he looks too intense and overacts and so is the rest of the supporting cast. But real sad news is that Sooraj Pancholi looks completely out of sorts. He can only flex muscles and is really bad in emotional or intense scenes. His action or dance moves are also nothing great if one copares him to Tiger Shroff or Varun Dhawan. Athiya Shetty actually looks good in parts but her over the top effort to look cute simply kills her impact.

Film has similar plot like original but screenplay has some really big issues and then it is too much stretched in 2nd half. Film has below par editing by Ritesh Soni. Music is average but nothing in comparison to cult hit songs of original. Cinematography is good and production design is perfect. Cinematography is excellent.

Director Nikhil Advani again falters and falters big time with such a poor screenplay and direction. He fails to extract performances from newcomers and main elements of original film were over looked i.e. rustic character of Jackie Shroff, extraordinary music.

Film will release today and it will get average to poor reviews and but it should still score decent numbers over weekend due to heavy promotion and Salman factor. Though it will not be a huge hit and will struggle from Monday onwards.

Hero Opens Well - Aided By Salman Factor

Hero opened pretty well with occupancies at around 30% on average. The film has newcomers but with promotions Salman Khan has been shown as the face of the film and also has a hit song to his credit which has enabled the film to start well.

The opening was best in the Mumbai / Gujarat belt and CPCI Rajasthan while North India was lower especially Delhi city and big cities of Punjab. The opening day will come out with a good number but it will be important to have some growth tomorrow if the film is to have a good run. A lot will depend on how North performs as growth becomes hard if plexes of Delhi city and East Punjab are not on board.

The other releases of the week Hum Sab Ullu Hain, Mera Genie Uncle and Tera Mera Tedha Medha all opened to very low response and have little chance at the box office. Mere Genie Uncle even has a 3D version but it won't really help much.
