of you might have seen me around in this forum. I have been contemplating about
writing a story in this forum for some time now. At last, I have decided to pen
down my thoughts. This is my first story on this forum. Please do leave your
comments after reading. I would love to know your view about the story. Don't
hesitate to criticise me. I hope you have a pleasant read.😊</font>

<font size="3">Mehra House</font><font size="2"></font>

<font size="2">Radhika
gazed at the dark sky sitting on the window pane. The dark night resembled the
current state of her life; covered in darkness. Ironic, right? The girl who
herself was the personification of light is lost in the darkness of life. She
had shoved herself in a huge pit of darkness for her best friend; a friend who
considered her to be her culprit, who hated her, who wanted to destroy her. She
had tried making her see the truth. But she was blinded by her hatred. She
refused to listen to her. Radhika was left with no option other than taking a
drastic decision. As a result, she got married to a man who called himself as
darkness. He kept on repeating that he is evil; that she cannot come in between
him and Sam. She was used to this rant of his. She stayed cool all the time.
She was used to his rude behaviour. But she never felt bad. She knew that the
rude exterior was just a mask, a mask to hide his true self. There was a little
child hidden behind the rough exterior & she had witnessed it all. She had
witnessed the whole wide array of shades his character consisted. She had seen
the angry Arjun Mehra, the arrogant one, the manipulative Arjun, the vengeful
Arjun, the vulnerable Arjun, the caring Arjun, the loving Arjun, the naughty
Arjun, and the playful Arjun. Yet she felt that there is a lot more to him. He
was like a deep ocean full of secrets. She wanted to unveil each of his hidden
aspects one by one, like a treasure hunt.</font>

<font size="2">But what he
did today hurt her. She didn't know why she felt so. Neither had she any reason
nor any valid explanation for the way she felt. She was confused with the ways
in which her own heart reacted seeing Arjun and Sam together. She was deeply
hurt and disappointed when Arjun had asked her to go out of his cabin this
morning. But he was too busy smiling at Sam, to see the pain in her eyes. He
had ignored her completely. And now he was out with Sam for their dinner date.
Just the thought of it was enough to make her feel an immense pain rising up
her chest. She was not familiar with this pain. The distress she felt was alien
to her. She failed to understand it. </font>

<font size="2">She was
tormented by the turn of events. She felt isolated. Her best friend hated her,
her parents were upset with her, her so-called husband and sister-in-law wanted
to get rid of her. But it is at the darkest hour that we see the brightest
star. She had also seen her star, Neil! He was the only person who trusted her
even after all that happened. He was the only person who supported her even
without any proof. He believed her. He believed that his Chashni can never do
something wrong. Chashni! A smile crept up her beautiful face remembering the
endearment. It was him who had given her that name. He had called her by that
name on their first meeting. Back then she had no idea that he would become so
dear to her. He supported her every time she was in trouble. He supported her
even when Sam was against her. He went against his best friend for her. He is
her true friend, perhaps the only real friend she had. He is a gem of a person.
She considered herself lucky to have a friend like him.</font>

<font size="2">DING DONG!</font>

<font size="2">Her chain of
thoughts was broken when she heard the calling bell ringing. Who could it be?!
Nandini was out for the night. Arjun wouldn't return so soon from his date. The
thought of the date saddened her again. She brushed off the feeling quickly and
proceeded towards the front door to open it. She opened the door after composing
herself. She was surprised to see the visitor.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Neil?!"</font>

<font size="2">Neil beamed
at her with his charming smile.</font>

<font size="2">Neil:
"Chashni, are you planning to make me stand here for the whole night?"</font>

<font size="2">Radhika
smiled at him whole-heartedly and moved aside to let him come in.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Come in Neil. I'm so sorry to make you stand at the entrance. Please have a
seat. I'll bring water for you."</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "Hey
Chashni! There is no sorry and please in friendship. So cut it. And yeah, I
don't want water. I'm here to meet my friend and spend some time with her. Come
sit."</font>

<font size="2">They settled
themselves on the couch comfortably. Once they were seated, Radhika turned her
attention back to Neil.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika: "So
what made you come here at this hour?"</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "Why?!
Can't I meet my friend when I wish to? Just kidding! Actually I thought to give
you company while your husband is out for dinner with our friend."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika's
face fell again at the mention of the date. Neil noticed the change in her
demeanour. He stood up from his seat & sat beside her. He took her hand in
his forcing her to look up.</font>

<font size="2">Neil:
"Chashni, whatever happened shouldn't have happened. I know that you are sad
and upset by Sam's behaviour. Even I can't understand her anymore. Her anger is
justified. But the way in which she is reacting is totally bizarre. She
believes that you are her culprit. But I know my Chashni. You can't and won't
hurt her on purpose even in your dreams. I'm sure that there a very big reason
behind your actions. Neither are you in love with Arjun nor happy. What is the
matter Chashni? Please tell me. I can't see you suffer in silence."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika was
touched by the care and concern he showed for her. She wanted to tell him
everything. She wanted to take off the burden from her heart. But how could
she? Would he understand if she says that Arjun is innocent despite of all his
wrong-doings? </font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Neil, there is nothing like..."</font>

<font size="2">Neil
interrupted her: "Don't tell me that there is nothing like what I'm thinking.
Because I know that there is something, something very serious. If you have
ever considered me as your friend, then you will have to tell me, at least for
the sake of our friendship."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika was
feeling helpless. He had stroke the right cord. He had sworn on the name of
their friendship. How could she deny him the truth now? He is her only true
friend. How could she hide anything from him? She took a deep breath, finally
making her decision. Radhika looked up to face an anticipating Neil.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Neil, you are the only person with whom I can share my thoughts right now. And
I want to share everything. The burden of the truth is suffocating me. You are
as dear tome as Sam is. Even in the morning I wanted to reveal everything to
you. But I couldn't. I didn't know how you would react to the truth. I was
scared of the consequences Neil. The truth holds the capacity to destroy many
lives. Sam won't be able to bear it. It will destroy her completely."</font>

<font size="2">Neil looked
at her in apprehension. His features screamed worry. </font>

<font size="2">Neil: "Don't
worry Chashni. Just tell me whatever it is. I promise you that I will always be
there beside you and will help you sort out all the problems. I won't let any
harm reach you or Sammy."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika: "I
trust you Neil. I will tell you everything. But please promise me that you
would listen to me completely before reacting."</font>

<font size="2">Neil placed
his palm over Radhika's and looked directly into her eyes: "I promise you
Chashni. I will hear out everything without interrupting you."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika
smiled at him and sighed in relief. She started narrating everything to him
from the beginning; right from when she saw Arjun talking to Nandini in a
semi-conscious state in the hospital to the most recent happenings. She didn't
hide anything from him. </font>

<font size="2">Neil was
boiling with rage after hearing everything. How dare they think about hurting
Sam? And how dare Arjun? He destroyed the life of his Chashni just for the sake
of his stupid baseless revenge.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika was
worried seeing Neil silent. She could see clearly that he was damn angry.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Neil, please say something. Your silence is scaring me."</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "How
dare they Chashni? They tried to harm both my best friends. And that Arjun! I'm
not gonna leave him. He will see what Neil really is today!" </font>

<font size="2">Neil stood
up from the couch in anger and was about to leave to confront Arjun. But
Radhika held his hand and stopped him.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Neil please! You had promised me that you won't take any hasty decisions.
Please calm down Neil. Please listen to me once." </font>

<font size="2">Neil
loosened his clenched fist listening to her. He turned around to face Radhika.
His eyes were moist and his face held a soft look. He cupped her face in his
palms.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "Why
did you do this Chashni? Why did you destroy your entire life for Sam? You gave
up all your dreams for Sam. Why are you so selfless? You lost everything and
everyone who loved you. Sam hates you and you are enduring her hatred without
any objection. Why you have to be so nice Chashni? Why?"</font>

<font size="2">Radhika
placed her palms over his: "My dreams are not bigger than Sam's life. How could
I have let any harm reach her?"</font>

<font size="2">Neil was
overwhelmed by emotions. She never failed to surprise him with her altruism. He
was spellbound by the compassion she held. He hugged her tightly unable to
express his feelings through words. Radhika understood his silent words and
hugged him back. They broke apart after a while.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "You
don't have to worry anymore Chashni. I will reveal everything to Sam tonight
itself. Once she comes to know the truth, she will realise her mistake. She
will understand you."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika: "No
Neil! Please don't tell anything to Sam. She has already lost her love &
friend. She won't be able to take anymore blow. She won't be able to tolerate
the fact that the father whom she loved more than anyone has in fact deceived
her and her Mom. She would be shattered Neil. Please don't make her go through
another heart-break. She would be able to live without me, but not without her
father."</font>

<font size="2">Neil tried
to interrupt her. But she didn't let him.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"And this is not just about Sam. As I told you, Arjun Sir is not aware about
what Nandini Di had planned for Sam. He has been manipulated. He is still
oblivious to her evil face. She is destroying him too in her thirst for
revenge. I want to save him too Neil. He is not as bad as he tries to portray
himself. I have to rescue him before it's too late."</font>

<font size="2">Neil kept on
looking at her for a while. Finally he broke his silence.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "You
are in love with Arjun." </font>

<font size="2">It was not a
question. He just stated a fact. Radhika was bewildered by the blunt statement.
She had never thought about it. Yes, she was hurt when he had chosen Sam over
her today. She had cried silently when he left for his dinner with Sam. Just
the prospect of going away from him was enough to make her feel an agonizing
pain creep up her heart. She had never felt this way for anyone. But is it
love? Is she in love with Arjun Mehra? Has she fallen for her husband?</font>

<font size="2">Neil kept
his hand on her shoulder to bring her out of her reverie. Radhika snapped back
into reality.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "What
happened Chashni? Why are you so lost?"</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"I...I don't know Neil. I don't know what I feel for him. I care for him. I
want him to be a better person. I get hurt when he chooses Sam over me. But...
is it love?!"</font>

<font size="2">Neil smiled
at his Chashni's naivety.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "Only
you can answer this question Chashni. Just remember all the time you had spent
with him and then ask your heart what it feels. Only your heart can answer your
question."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika felt
herself going back on the memory lane. She remembered all the time Arjun had
saved her. His anger, his care, his concern, she remembered all of it. And
finally she remembered the hurt she had felt at his ignorant behaviour. With
that the truth finally dawned upon her. Yes! She was in love with him. She was
too dazed to react. She turned to Neil only to see him looking back at her.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Yes Neil! You're right. I'm in love with him!"</font>

<font size="2">Neil was
happy that finally his friend realised her true feelings. He was happy for her.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "I'm
glad that you realised your feelings. At least you can be happy in your life."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika
shook her head in denial.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika: "No
Neil. It's true that I love Arjun. But he doesn't love me. He just considers me
to be a bad luck. He would never love me."</font>

<font size="2">A tear
escaped her eyes at that thought. Neil wiped away her tears with utmost care
and turned her around to face him. </font>

<font size="2">Neil:
"Chashni, from what I have seen, I feel that Arjun loves you. Not from now, but
from long back. And I'm sure that he too will realise this soon. Your love will
help him fight his inner demons."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika kept
looking at his caring eyes. She gained strength from his trust and love for
her. But she didn't fail to notice the pain in his eyes. His eyes were always
so expressive. Even though he tried to hide his pain by his smile, his eyes
always gave away his inner turmoil.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"Neil, can I ask you something?"</font>

<font size="2">Neil nodded
his head in affirmation.</font>

<font size="2">Radhika:
"You love Sam, don't you?"</font>

<font size="2">Neil went
still with her question. He tried averting his gaze from her.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "What
are you saying Chashni? Me and Sammy? Never..." He tried to brush off the
question with his usual fun way. But Radhika didn't let him complete his
sentence. She stood in front of him again and forced him to look at her.</font>

<font size="2">Neil looked
at Radhika and saw her concern for him. He couldn't hold back any longer. He
too wanted to let it all out. He sat down on the couch with a sigh. Radhika sat
beside him waiting for him to talk. Neil had his head bowed down.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "Yes
Chashni. I love Sammy."</font>

<font size="2">He looked up
at her and continued: "I have always been in love with her. But I realised it a
bit late. There is no use of telling all this now. But how do you know?"</font>

<font size="2">Radhika
smiled at him sadly: "You are too good at hiding your feelings Neil. But your
eyes always give away your emotions. I had seen the pain in your eyes."</font>

<font size="2">Neil was
moved by her words. He pulled her into another bone crushing hug. He thanked
God in mind for giving him such a wonderful friend. </font>

<font size="2">Neil: "Thank
you so much for being my true friend Chashni! Even Sam hasn't understood me so
well till now. Thanks for coming into my life."</font>

<font size="2">He pulled
back from the hug and took her palm in his.</font>

<font size="2">Neil: "I
promise you Chashni. I will always be there beside you. I will not let you
suffer anymore. I will help you to sort out all the problems. I still haven't
forgiven Arjun. But I will give him a last chance, just for you."</font>

<font size="2">Radhika
smiled in gratitude: "Thanks Neil. You are my best friend."</font>

<font size="2">Neil:
"Forever..."</font>
