Exactly four weeks after Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a biggie is all set to be unveiled in theaters. Brothers, which has been in news ever since its inception a year ago, is the BIG film this Independence Day weekend and is all set to enjoy a major haul.
Just about everything appears to be going right for the film. The promo has been accepted quite well. The lead cast of Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra and Jackie Shroff is superb. With Gabbar Is Back, Baby and Ek Villain behind them, Akshay and Sidharth are enjoying a good run. Karan Johar and Karan Malhotra have given a Superhit Agneepath together. The action is looking unique and fantastic. The emotional appeal is promising good footfalls from the family audience. And most importantly, audiences are interested in coming to theaters, as seen in the recent spate of Blockbusters.
All of this will ensure that Brothers takes a very good opening at the Box Office. Since the film is releasing wide, even a start of over 60% on the opening day would mean that it would be on a right path, provided the word of mouth is favorable. Moreover, since Saturday falls on 15th August, a huge haul is pretty much on the cards, followed by Sunday which is anyways meant for large number of family audiences. While the film is set to open big, the only question is how big. While over 15 crore first day is pretty much on the cards, it can even go to 20 crore if the film gets a favorable response.
Meanwhile, Vinay Pathak's Gour Hari Dastaan - The Freedom File is set for release this Friday as well. The film has hardly seen any promotion coming its way and would be seeing a restricted release. The Ananth Narayan Mahadevan directed film would be relying entirely on critical acclaim to pull in audience.
Brothers is an upcoming sports drama film. It stars Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles. The film has been directed by Karan Malhotra and produced under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. Brothers is scheduled to release on 14 August 2015.
Brothers is an official remake of Hollywood film Warrior which released in 2011. The trailer of Brothers was received well but music has been a disappointment. The star cast of the film has raised audience expectations.Let's move on to the Akshay Kumar's Brothers review to find out if it lives up to the expectations.
Brothers revolves around the story of two brothers David Fernandes (Akshay Kumar) and Monty Fernandes (Sidharth Malhotra). Their father Gary Fernandes (Jackie Shroff) is an alcoholic who has to go to jail for his crime. David hates his father who is also a retired boxer. But Monty takes his father's side. This creates hatred between two brothers. David is married to Jenny Fernandes (Jacquline Fernandez) who is a big support for him. To take revenge from his brother, Monty works hard and get trained by his father. He reaches into the final of world championship of martial arts where he has to face his brother David.
Who will be the ultimate winner? Will David be able to forgive his father? Will David and Monty become reunited as brothers? Watch the film to find out.
The film, remake of Hollywood release Warriors, has more or less the same story. However, its screenplay is not engaging which makes it boring for viewers. The film, no doubt, is a bit too lengthy and heavy because there aren't many light moments but the lack of humour is intentional so that the revenge angle is not diluted. The over dramatic family drama has ruined this extra ordinary looking sports film.
Director Karan Malhotra has earlier directed blockbuster Agneepath but this time he does not live up to the expectations. Though he impresses in some scenes where his direction is top notch. But it is screenplay that has let down the film. Music by Ajay Atul is a huge disappointment though it is difficult to integrate songs in a tension-ridden revenge drama like this film. Cinematography by Hermant Chaturvedi is top class. The fight sequences between Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra has been picturised extremely well.
' Akshay Kumar does an absolutely mind blowing job. He plays David so wonderfully that this could go as one of his career best performances. He has surely worked very hard for this role which has paid off.
'Sidharth Malhotra has also done equally well. It is just his fourth film and he has come a long way from Student of The Year. In his eyes, we can actually feel the hatred for his brother.
' Jackie Shroff is another name that needs to be mentioned. It is probably his best performance in last few years.
Brothers had the potential to become an excellent sports film but the over family drama has let it down. Though still it's worth watching because of Akshay and Sidharth terrific performances.
3/5

Sunny 🥳 Enjoy!!Bunking a class for it. 😆----------------------------One thing I am really worried about is the melodrama part.. I hope it's not that OTT
Much like director Karan Malhotra's macho fighter, who tires out his opponents before going for the big strike, even his feature painfully drains us before hitting us with the big face-off.
By then, you are done caring.
From when the curtains go up, Karan's busy upping the emotional quotient with a drunken father and his feisty sons tearing up over a past tragedy that he leaves the real rustic fighting for the fag end.
While we're constantly promised there's a historical battle just round the corner, it only emerges after we've spend much of the 170 minutes of screen time witnessing a broken family's many struggles, tragedies and copious amounts of tears.
Not that any of it is ever going to influence you.
You sit there, unaffected, watching one drama after another unfold without any impact.
The narrative is awfully sluggish and predictable, and would've benefitted immensely from extravagant trimmings. Clearly, we can't put the blame entirely on Karan or his editor Akiv Ali, because much of the damage came out of borrowing the script (officially) from Hollywood's Warrior'.
But, unlike the original, the Bollywood version is further punctured with songs. If Karan's debut Agneepath', a remake of a cult, had Chikni Chameli' gyrating to some senseless lyrics, there's Mary' going all out to sizzle.
Karan, unfortunately, is unable to keep it tight and gripping. It could've turned into a possibly good sports drama, instead, it's reduced to a formulaic mess with item girls and cosmetic tear-jerkers.
It's when the battle ground is finally set for right to fight' (R2F), where disgraced street fighters have a second chance at fame and money, that there's some level of excitement, but the unhurried screenplay wears you down.
Akshay is effortless as he throws his strikes and punches in the ring, and takes on David without much conflict. His acting isn't spectacular, but his action is.
Siddarth Malhotra appears uninterested and plugs a wooden expression throughout the movie. He's obviously worked on the physicality of Monty, but not his emotional turbulence.
Despite flaunting an interesting body of work, Shefali Shah disappoints with her perplexing dramatics. Jacky Shroff too appears earnest, but he's armed with nothing more than a shabby hair-do and wardrobe to emote angst and pain.
It's the younger crop of actors, who appear far more genuine in their performance.
The spectacular scenes are restricted to the fighting ring. But, unlike Rocky Balboa's bloody boxing adventures, David and Monty's martial arts doesn't inspire or demand applause.
