ANSWER : Percival Dumbledore
A vengeful momentary lapse of judgement,
In a momentary fit of vengeful fury , Ariana's father went after the muggle boys who traumatized Ariana & killed them without giving a second thought to the consequences.
Following which a chain of events triggered a stronger resentment.
After the muggle killing incident , a lot of things happened within the Dumbledore family which included both Kendra's & Ariana's deaths leading up to Aberforth's stronger resentment for his elder brother Albus.
Accused of crimes & supremacy devotion,
Percival was convicted for his crimes which he did commit , however , he kept the real reason for his crimes a secret for Ariana's sake , consequently , people started viewing Percival as just another evil pure blood supremacy devoted wizard who killed three muggle boys , all the while ignoring the fact that Percival himself was married to a muggle born witch Kendra.
Never free of the tarnished reputation.
Percival was never free of his tarnished reputation during his lifetime ( and most likely even after it since the truth about Ariana was never revealed to the world ) ,he died while he was still at Azkaban just like any other dark wizard imprisoned in Azkaban.
Sacrificing oneself was the ultimate price to pay,
Percival sacrificed himself to punish those who wronged Ariana & never bothered to tell the truth in order to prevent Ariana from being taken to St.Mungos.
Sadly , the consequences were anything but happy & gay.
After all the efforts to keep Ariana away from St.Mungos , ultimately it led to even more tragedies - Kendra's death , Ariana's death , Aberforth's resentment for Albus , tarnished reputation of the Dumbledore family , furthermore guilt & pain for Albus , after all this one cant help but wonder if Ariana would have been better off at St.Mungos , a lot of things could have been set right .π€
