Nishikant to direct Ajay Devgn's next
After the actor's most talked about film Shivay gets postponed indefinitely, he gears up for his next with the director which will reportedly be a south remake

Reshma Kelkar Dabholkar

Ajay Devgn's most talked about and expensive film Shivay has been indefinitely postponed but the actor isn't disappointed as he is now gearing up for his next film. The untitled film will be directed by Lai Bhari fame Nashikant Kamat. The director has completed shooting of his upcoming film Rocky Handsome with John Abrahm and is gearing up to start the next film with Ajay Devgn. According to the source, "Ajay is aware Nishikant's work and impressed with his work. The script of this film compelled the actor to come on board when he met Nishikant last month. Busy in the pre-production of this film, Nishikant is also in the process of finalizing the entire cast of the film."

Apparently, after completing Rocky Handsome, Nishikant was planning to start a period film which is set in 50's era. Source says, "Nishikant's film with Ajay Devgn is a remake of a south film. He seems to have kept his period film on hold for this film." Nishikant has earlier directed John Abraham starrer Force which was a remake of a Tamil film Khakha Khakha. Same is the case with Ajay too. He too has done films like Singham and Son of Sardar which were Hindi remakes of popular south films. Reportedly, he is keen to remake Mohanlal's Malayalam film Drishyam in future.Nishikant's untitled film is slated to go on floors soon in March. The film will be produced by Viacom 18 motion pictures along with Kumar Mangat Pathak and Panaroma films.

Force was a horrible remake of Kakha Kakha. Can't imagine what he'd do to a lesser film then.

To think this guy is a two-time National Award Winner and was consider to be one of the top acting talents 10-15 years ago. The last good performance of his was probably Once Upon A Time In Mumbai in 2010.
Then you have Akshay Kumar who was never really considered to be a great actor, but was appreciated for action and comedy roles. And now he is making films like Baby, Special 26 and OMG.

It's like they swapped careers in the last couple of years. 😕

To some extent audience is to blame for that...Ajay never got the kind of ..'fame' he got post-Rohit Shetty and South/North remakes before.

But, if Akshay can mix it up (even though his different films don't make huge amounts of money), then there's absolutely no reason why the others can't either. ...and nothing at all justifies choices like Action Jackson and Himmatwaala.

But at least Akshay goes to the lengths of mixing up genres.

About those films not making enough money though, I was watching Komal Nahta's Bollywood Business show yesterday on TV. He blames Akshay for not lowering his remuneration for films like Special 26 and Baby. He was saying how actors need to understand that for smaller films which are likely to draw in only niche audiences, it is necessary to decrease your remuneration to lower the budget. Examples he used were DP for Finding Fanny and Shahid for Haider. He said Hrithik made the same mistake with Guzaarish. He spent the whole 20 min show explaining this point. 😆
