If you ask me which were the best love confessions I have enjoyed I would say these 4( In Hindi, there are many other in regional movies but I will stick to hindi ones in this post). Raj spreading his arms and Simran running into them in DDLJ, a panic stricken Geet running through the field coming to Aditya and hugging him in Jab we Met, an Aakash making direct proposal to Shalini a day before her wedding in Dil Chahta Hai and Durga confessing her love to Dev and moving in his arms in Ek Hasina Thi Teleserial( Included this because it was for the first time I saw a very crisp confession in TV )
And yesterday another couple moved to that space. Aakash and Anjali. When Aakash told hear it once , Anjali telling I have heard it, your eyes are speaking volumes it was sheer beauty. A scene to be held in your eyes which made me fall in love with love all over once again.
So what is special about those confessions which we don't see in other movies or other teleserials or rather I say what is special about those characters. First and foremost difference about them is the confidence the couple displays in the scene. Take all the 5 cases. You don't see unnecessary shyness and coyness in the lady, neither do you see any hesitancy in the guy's reaction. It is as if the couple know about their choice, and as the confession is treated as a mutually accepted natural outcome.
Another interesting aspect which runs common to all these 5 confessions. If you look at the guy's in each of the scenario they are not perfect, they have one or other draw back Raj comes with an attitude of " Rules are meant to be broken", Aditya is a depressed soul on a suicide mission, Aakash in DCH does not believe in love and treat it was a useless thing in life, Dev was never there for his best friend in her hour of need and carries a huge guilty conscious. Aakash of Everest couldn't save his best friend, suffers acrophobia and leads kind of a lonely life. But yet the ladies in question are willing to accept them for what they are. Whether it is Simran, Geeth, Shalini, Durga or Anjali they prefer these not so perfect men as their life partners.
So what is that which makes them likeable. If you look through the answer is one. All these love stories are depicted as journey's where we see the guy giving space and respect to the lady, her family, her choices in life. Raj goes all the way to prove to Simran's father that he is infact a perfect son in law for him. The way he mingles with her family to make him acceptable to her near and dear ones is a great thing in patriarchal society where only girls have to prove.
Aditya goes back to search the girl whom he had left to meet her lover. He becomes the balm to her wounds but never imposing himself on her. Aakash understands why Shalini is marrying Rohit and goes and proposes her in front of everyone. Dev gives space to Durga, allows her to complete her mission and is even willing to let her go if she cant reciprocate his love. Aakash also gives space to Anjali, understand why she cant be with him , respect her decision without imposing his feelings on her.
Infact they say a guy looks for certain qualities in a girl, but a girl also looks some qualities in a man. They need not be perfect. But if a man can give space and respect to a woman he will be the one who she will cherish and will go any extent to defend him, protect him and be there for him.
