yeah, and it shows how much he needed them, how much he missed being happy, and though hareem wa shis main priority, i also feel from inside he did feel guilty about screaming at sara and hiding things from her, a person like him, he just cant hide stuffs and when he does, the guilt eats him up.
did u notice his lone tear when sara removes his hand from hers and leaves him alone in the hall ? that was so helpless, he really wanted her forgiveness, it was not just for sara's sake but his own peace of mind too that sara does not curse him or his daughter

Yes I do think he did genuinely care for Sara and wanted her to move on in her life. That apart from being a father who only wants his child's well being. He had missed Khirad for so long and Hareem came as a ray of happiness in his life. It was natural to try and cling to them. Beyond a point he made no bones about the fact. For Sara too the last hope was Khirad and Hareem would leave after the operation. When that didnt happen...it was all over for her.

shreya moral of the story is Asher wanted everyone's happiness, and in return everyone else ruined his and their own happiness.. wow what an irony 🤣

I think Asher minded his own business. Took what life gave him and tried to make the best of it. It was others who behaved as if he is the only guy in this world. What Zareena told Sara that she is precious...she should have got into her head long back.

but shreya zareena told her all these at a time, when it all looked so wrong, it was more like after she couldn't win Asher, zareena was consoling her that there are other men too, she should have done it when sara was desperately waiting for Asher's breakup..
anyways, as u said, yes Asher maintained his own business while rest of the people took his WHITEness and goodness for granted ...

I dont see that as his selfish apology..those 4.5 yrs he never lived to see/notice Sara is throwing away her life. He was not concerned abt anything though they were still frds, he was emotionally a dead person until he found abt his long lost beti . Its after that he realized his surrounding and processing things again..He came thr to apologize not just for his beti's sake but as a frd he realized Sara is still stuck to him and finally he wanted to apologize for that even it wasnt his fault...I felt that coming from his heart not for his selfish reasons and he was truly concerned but at the end left shattered

that one tear wonder not everyone can pull and not everyone looks so good doing that. convincing and touching,,his eyes that time filled wid pain..i wonder even if that was vicks how come he gets right emotions thru his eyes every single time..touch wood for that

no wonder kinjal, the sorry was not a selfish one, indeed it was more of a recall of his bad past, i think that very moment, the feeling of being rejected by someone had sinked in him so badly that he understood sara's plight.. He understood that his life got ruined in the love of one woman, and he saw sara's life as a reflection of his own, he thought sara shouldn't, infact she does not deserve to lead a life like his, he realized how his rejection has broken her, being a victim, he understood her condition, while sara never gave a thought to Asher's plight. But yeah he chose hareem's operation day to go and ask for sara's forgiveness, that was more because as a lover he had nothing to lose, but as a father he had hareem to lose, and he realized that how he wronged sara and screamed at her because of hareem's protection.

Kinjal as i always say, Asher is too good to exist, and if i would be sara, i would never let my childhood best and only friend go empty handed, if my forgiveness could give him his last smile, i would give him that one ..

@bold:- yeah.. he did it again as Asher, i remeber him doing that , or should i say a similar act in dastaan, when his eyes were just in focus, and in bg they said that bano died, ahhh dayummm FK and his crying scenes.. the lone tear when sara leaves him, and bicharneywaley mein sabkuch tha plays in bg, how perfect sequencing...

HUMSAFAR REWATCH PARTY : Episode 22

Posted by Sadaf On April - 9 - 2014

This episode may well be an argument against sending your children to Ivy League Universities. In between crying myself into exhaustion I managed to get incredibly frustrated with Asher; despite all the supposed critical thinking skills and analytics he should have learnt at Yale, he still needs a full confession from his mother to believe in Khirad's innocence. Sarmad, Fawad and the Dop do a masterful job of showing Asher fighting himself over the growing holes in the story he had accepted against his wife and here lies the crux of the matter: why were they just holes? Any sane man would have questioned Khizar, any sane man would have questioned his mother or at the very least questioned Khirad.

There are two letters in this penultimate episode and full marks to Mahirah who managed to bring just the right amount of pathos to those lines. The end of her letter leaving Hareem with Asher asking permission to speak to her daughter occasionally and begging him not to cast aspersions on her character always has me in tears .The second letter and the way it was presented is a tour de force. So much of the power of this old fashioned story of love and betrayal lies in the modern way it was shot and the way the director visualised each scene.Farida's confession can be heard in real time but Asher is shown listening and walking at a slightly slower speed as if he is slowly waking from a dream or breaking free of the alternate reality he had held on to for so long. This episode was skilfully edited and each track skilfully woven together so at no point did anything become overbearing or the audience left wanting.

There are two camps in my household: team sympathy is me who feels Sara should have lived and team Judgment aka my husband who thinks that was the only logical end to the Sara-Asher-Khirad love triangle. Either way we both agree that Hina Bayat tore our hearts out with her performance in this episode. She is an amazing actress and an asset to any production lucky enough to have her. That telephone conversation between Farida and Zarina was amazing and then her grief as she sat in her dead child's room. Bass kamal hogaya.

At this point Humsafar had the entire nation (Including the non-resident diaspora) in its thrall so when the producers (?) decided to increase it by one episode there was much gnashing of teeth. As I remember it (do correct me if I am wrong) there was also a religious holiday which meant that the actual finale was delayed by yet another week. Considering the merciless way perfectly good serials are being diluted now it seems our disappointment was misplaced. The finale did require two episodes or at the very least an hour and a half "super episode" to tie up all the loose ends.

Now my complaints which my poor husband has to sit through each time:

  • Why on earth did Khirad leave her child to the tender mercies of Farida? The woman was a monster and Asher was not going to be home all day.
  • Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him for the love of God, tell him.
  • Who is looking after Hareem when her guilty as hell father runs of to Hyderabad?
  • What is wrong with Asher, why can't he question his mother?
  • How is that four foot ka Security guard going to "throw six foot of well-honed muscle that is Khizar out exactly?

There are people in my house who insist that this should all be swept away under the blanket term "dramatic licence" and yes it did make for the most amazing viewing. I know this is a long review but I cannot resist talking about Asher and Khizar's confrontation. Finally... Asher did what he should have done in episode

^ Brilliant review.. but too "logical" for my liking 😆
I loved, loved, loved Mahira's voiceover in the letter that reveals it all. And Fawad, there's nothing I can say to describe his act in this episode. For me, episode 22 is the finest act of his career - feel free to disagree peeps 😳

I was wondering about the same points actually. Why leave Hareem with Asher when she might spend a lot of her time alone with Fareeda rather than Asher? Also when Asher knew Fareeda wanted his child dead...he still left her home without supervision at Fareeda's mercies.
