Vivian Dsena's parents are settled in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. His parents had a love marriage with a common love for sports and though they came from different religious backgrounds; his father is a Christian, while his mother is a Hindu, they have had a successful marriage. His father, Duncan Dsena is of mixed Indian and Portuguese ancestry. Duncan was a national level football player, who played for the Railways team.
Vivian is close to his mother, Shyamlata who was also a sportsperson, a State level hockey player for Madhya Pradesh. Before marriage, Vivian's mom continued to check up on her son's health and made sure that she visited her son, at least once a month in his Mumbai home.
Vivian Dsena is very proud of his parents and is humble enough to not take all the credit for himself, but attributes his personality to the excellent genes he inherited from his parents.

Vivian Dsena, a child of a successful mixed faith marriage, followed a similar route for himself, when he married his Parsi girlfriend, actress Vahbiz Dorabjee. Vahbiz was his co-star in the TV serial Pyar Ki Yeh Ek Kahaani. According, to Vivian, Vahbiz is not only his lucky mascot, but also the stabilizing factor in his life. In 2012, the attractive couple got engaged in a private ceremony with only their relatives and close friends in attendance. They preferred to keep it small because they didn't want their families to be uncomfortable by all the inevitable media attention they would have got, if they had made it a large affair. They got married a year later in 2013 in both civil and traditional wedding ceremonies. The two couldn't immediately leave for their honeymoon because of Vivian's professional commitments; his popular TV serial Madhubala, for which he had to shoot the day after his marriage!
