I usually find that the film adaptation of a novel does not do justice to the novel at all. Was this the case with 2 states? I've not seen the film yet.

I saw it two days back and while I really enjoyed watching the film, it fell short on many accounts. In the sense, the USP of the book was the humor and the light-hearted treatment of the love story beween Krish and Ananya, but the film takes their story and itself a tad too seriously! When you read the book, you feel an emotional connect with the characters but you keep laughing along with and on them too, but the film makes their love story seem like a National issue😆
Also, the story in the book was set in the mid to late ninties, a time when India was changing rapidly and hence, it was perfectly understandable why two educated, independent adults would hark so much about parental acceptance of their relationship or for that matter why the parents themselves would be so hung-up on the caste/state issue.
But the film is set in current times and it wasn't very convincing to see parents opposing the lovers so much because they belong to different caste and states.
Other than that, I thought the casting in the film was spot-on...after watching 2 States, it difficult to imagine anyone else other than Arjun and Alia doing justice to Krish and Ananya's role. Same for the brilliant supporting cast.

I think it's very rare to see a movie adaptation live up to the book. I think more than this movie, 3 Idiots was a better movie adaptation of Bhagat's 3 Mistakes...

3Idiots was movie adaptation of 5 point someone whereas Koi po che was movie adaptation of 3 mistakes.

I prefer the movies than Chetan Bhagats novels.

The book by far. The film was alright I guess, pretty entertaining, and tries to do justice to the book.

They could've changed Ananya's salary in the film. 😆 50,000 for an IIM graduate with a good job sounds so unconvincing.
