Dance - a metaphor for S** 22 April

Oookay, so I watched the 22 April episode again. And here is what I have inferred --On indian television, perhaps, Dance = S**.

The dance that the couple do actually mimics the s** act. One can even say that dance is a metaphor for the act itself. Since the director, cannot explicitly shoot the couple, doing it...i mean on indian tv, bedroom scenes are cannot be shown, due to "traditional mindset of our viewers', dancing is used as an indirect way of showing what Rudra and Paro's equation in bed will be like, without being explicit about it.
So basically Dancing in the episode is a euphemism for doing the dirty ;). If one looks at the episode closely, all the signs and symbols are there:

1) Paro is dressed in Red --the colour of blood (perhaps of the hymen), passion, love.

2) When she walks in and Rudra sees her, he is a smitten kitten. Gitanjaliji even remarks upon it. She says, something like, "Maine kaha tha na , tujhe dekh ke Rudra ke hosh kho baithega". Essentially, when Rudra sees Paro, he is fully turned on. The animal passion is smouldering in his lovely hazel brown eyes.
Paro on the other hand, is playing the shy, scared virgin. She keeps saying that she shouldnt have come to the "ball"----a code word for "bed";)

3) Rudra takes the lead. He tells Paro, that now that she has come to the ball, she must stay.
If one extends the ball = bed metaphor, then Rudra can be said to take the lead here too. As the more sexually experienced one in the relationship, he urges Paro to stay and participate. He tells her to trust him, "Thodi der ke liye, apne aap ko mere havale kar de", or something along those lines. And he also reassures her and tells her not to be scared of the sexual experience --"Fikar mat kar, girne nahi doonga"...

4) Then there is the dance itself. Or on another level, the act of love-making, that they indulge in.
Notice Rudra's body movements. He takes paro in his arms, and then with his feet he pushes her legs apart. For an instance we are shown that he is literally standing between her two legs! (Think of a similar situation in bed!)

5) The pace of the dance mimics love making too. It starts off slow, and then picks up. It becomes faster and faster and faster. The moves get more and more complex. There are turns, twists, twirls, lifts. Rudra is always the one leading. Always the one guiding and showing the way. Just as an experienced lover would do. The passion heightens and the music reaches a cresendo. The dancing stops. There is a pause. Rudra, looks down at Paro. He is panting. She is out of breath too.

6) Watch closely, and you will see that the camera focuses on his panting, for quite a few seconds. This is the orgasm. ...the Climax
Or so Rudra would like Paro to think. But then he as a few more moves left...

7) The dancing it starts again. Slowly, and then picks up pace. Becomes more quicker. And then lo and behold, we see paro reciprocating and she begins to make moves more independently. She is a quick student. She learns the moves of passion fast. But then she has a great teacher in Rudra.

8) The second time, the climax comes quickly. Then there is slow dancing for a while. And then Rudra, does one more flip. And the episode ends.

So essentially, in this episode, one can conclude, the euphemistically, atleast, what Rudra and Paro's equation in bed will be like. The directors of the show have showed us this without actually showing it to us.

The pre-cap provides further support for the dancing = s** metaphor.

Usually, after a couple has initiated a physical relation, the verbal communication between them also changes. The partners tend to become more free in their speech with each other and are not as guarded with their words. The physical secrets have already been shared. So the guard is let down, and now the other secrets can also be told openly. They become more expressive to each other. Thus we see int he pre-cap. Rudra and paro (drunk, metaphorically on passion and love) are talking freely with each other and exchanging things that they have never spoken about before.
Also I want to add, that the earlier, scene where Paro and Rudra take their baths, can be understood as the foreplay, to the bed/ball scene. Think about it. First Paro caught a glimpse of Rudra bathing and then saw him in his towel and then Rudra saw Paro clad only in her bathrobe.
That scene, built the sexual tension and dramatic tension, which then climaxed in the ensuing ball dance scene.

The camera, cannot actually show the couple engaging in pillowtalk, foreplay and having s**. But these past two episodes, have showed us indirectly, what Rudra and Paro will be like in bed.

Now, some of you may disagree with me. Some of you may say that that I am reading too much into the episode. You may say that the dancing only means that they are getting closer, and nothing more.

You have a point. Yes, the dancing does show that the couple is getting closer. But the symbols I discussed before, also show that this dance mimics the s** act, and hence the dance is not just an innocuous dance. It is actually an indirect representation of the sexual-equation between the two.

Now, when the directors actually show parud consummating their marriage, the maximum they can show, is the two of them, lying in bed under the covers, ...and perhaps Rudra with his shirt off. In the indian context, where the audience is "conservative", they cannot show more than that.

The camera cannot stay on the couple on their suhag raat and actually show who will lead the s**act, who will guide, how Paro will reach, how long it will last, if the couple will climax together or not...etc. ...on indian tv they cannot show all these intimate details explicitly. Hence they showed the dance...to give us a clue, as to what their equation in bed will be like when they get there. The directors, set our dirty minds working, (mine atleast) and help us visualise, what our couple will be like in bed. ;)

If you keep in mind the symbols, and watch the episode again, you will see that PARUD is behaving exactly as a newly wed couple would do on their suhag raat, albeit with their clothes on ;) The dance tells us what their future sex life will be like. They are actually rehearsing for us...dress rehearsal;)

In terms of the plot progression too, I think this s**-dance was essential. Earlier, back at home, it was the presence of the samaj sevika's that drove Rudra and Paro into bed togehter. Without those women's surveillance, PARUD would necessarily have go back to back to separate sleeping arrangements. This would hamper the progression of the love story. So in order for the love plot to progress, something has to change in their relationship. And that change has to come while they are in Jaipur. They have to start sleeping togehter of their own accord. They have to become willing bed-fellows in Jaipur,, so that they can continue being so at home, and give the audience the chemistry that it wants, and also allow the story to progress.

To be honest, the first time I watched this episode I was a little put off by the dance. I expressed my views about this too (http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3996941).
But now I have changed my mind. I think the CVs are are clever in showing the. Dance which is a metaphor for the s**ual equation between rudra and paro. It allows the audience to see the chemistry between the lead pair, without actually, being explicit and at the same time it propells the plot forward.

So great going CVs, for showing us what PARUD will be doing when, they actually do the dirty...;)

Well, overall Great episode.
Keep them coming.

I don't get it... U mean euphemistically these 2 have become intimate in a dance.. So that they can become bedfellows literally and continue this arrangement at home..
So parud go back to haveli sleep in the same bed but literally don't indulge in baby making sex because dance me they have become one spiritually...

Agreed 👏..Even i saw the way rudra was seeing her bare foot in the bathrobe ...😳 he is slowly getting attracted towards her more and more...And paro on other hand was very shy i think right now she is not in a mode to become a wife but to become a lover...😃...For this rudra has to make a move first to bring her in wify mode i guess...

Hey, MSIN sorry perhaps I wasnt clear earlier. I have revised my post since then. But what I mean to say, is that the dance is a metaphor for the s** equation that Rudra and Paro will have. The camera cannot be trained on them, as the consumate their marriage, whenever that will be. Max, they can just show us, the two in bed, hugging or something, with rudra topless. They cannot show us intimate detailes, like who will initiate it, who will guide it, the climax etc...

So they showed all this in the dance. The dance if you look closely actually mimics the s** act. So euphemistically, the creatives are showing us, what PARUD will be like in bed.

Secondly, I think their becoming bedfellows is essential to the plot. It has to happen. Otherwise, how will the story move forward? For how long can the CVs justify, a married couple sleeping seperately? They cannot sustain, it for too long. After all, the audience wants to see the chemisty between the couple. The chemistry, now can only be shown, if they become closer and closer to each other.----and become bedfellows.

Also this story is reportedly based on Othello, which is the story of a husband who does not trust his wife, and perceives that she has betrayed him. For Rudra, to eventually perceive that Paro has betrayed him, first he has to begin to trust her. He has to accept her as his wife (and you know, sleeping together, is an important bond in the married relation), and then something will occur that will lead him to believe that she has not been faithful to him...but the first step is acceptance of her as his wife...hence at this stage, them sleeping together is important :)

Actually ST recently clarified and said that Rudra's character has been inspired by Othello but the story itself is not based on Othello 😊 Everything else is spot on!
