Irrfan Khan to romance Deepika Padukone in Shoojit Sircar's Piku

After being cast opposite actresses like Tabu (in Maqbool, 2003, and The Namesake, 2006) and Konkona Sen Sharma (in Life In A... Metro; 2007), Irrfan Khan seems all set to romance Deepika Padukone in Shoojit Sircar's upcoming film.


Shoojit is currently working on his next, titled Piku, that revolves around a father-daughter relationship.

While Amitabh Bachchan plays the father, Deepika will be his daughter in the film.

Although Irrfan's role " that of Deepika's love interest " hasn't been spoken about much, an insider reveals that he does have a substantial part in it.

We tried reaching Shoojit, but he remained unavailable for a comment.

A source close to the Madras Caf (2013) director says, "He is in the script discussion stage with Bachchan sir at the moment. He will only talk about the film once things are finalised."

The film is expected to go on the floors later this year.

Incidentally, this is the second film that Shoojit and Bachchan will do together. They have previously worked on a movie titled Johnny Mastana that never released due to a legal tangle.

He is going to have fun shooting the intimate scenes [LOL]

I want Life in a Metro wala Irrfan back.

I love what Deepika is doing by accepting different roles but I feel she needs to stay at the numbers uno position for a little longer by accepting movies which are sure hits...masala movies.

I think she's doing the right thing. Very few sure shot movies will have good female roles like YJHD & CE. No use playing flowerpot roles like Asin to get into 100 cr club. Shuddhi is a big project and WS can do well too. Cocktail was her comeback to recognition. Roles matter more else Sonakshi would have numero uno.

Hope it works and happy to see deepika choosing scripts which doesn't guarantee commercial success.

Seems interesting! I'm happy that Deepika is balancing it out...for a masala HNY there is an offbeat FFF. Shuddhi & WS seem like meaty roles too!

It's a father-daughter story (played by Deepika-Mr Bachchan). I don't know what role Irfan is playing but I guess recent reports are saying he's romantically opp DP.
