Hello to everyone who has opened this thread; I'll not be utilizing much of your time. I just need help about the Lohri' festival. Could you just take five simple minutes to help me, by answering the following questions, please? Please, please help!

It is, really, very, important.

  • Basically, what is the Lohri festival?
  • Why is it celebrated?
  • Any specific dress conduct on that day?
  • What is it that you like about this festival?
  • Is this among the most awaited festivals? If yes, why?
  • Any specific cooking arrangements made on that day?
  • What is the best thing about the festival?
  • Any other thing that you want to add about the festival, feel free to! :)
  • Also, leave your personal thoughts or that one thing that passes through your mind at the imminent approach of the festival.

Thanking you all in advance! :)

  • Basically, what is the Lohri festival? Not sure but.. usually, when a boy is born, his Lohri is celebrated by the parets.. What they do is you light a fire.. so it's like a bonfire and the pind people gather together and throw peanuts and that white sweet stuff 😆 into the fire. They also sing 'boliyan' as they do this.. Peanuts and the sweet stuff is also distributed to each house.. esp. the children.
  • Why is it celebrated?
  • Any specific dress conduct on that day? Any Indian dress I'm assuming?
  • What is it that you like about this festival? I celebrated it when I visited India and it was like, years ago so I don't remember.. Here in Canada, we can't light fires so we just go to the gurudwara..
  • Is this among the most awaited festivals? If yes, why?
  • Any specific cooking arrangements made on that day?

I had to scold my mom because she doesn't know why Lohri was celebrated and i had to ask to my cousin

Seems like the knowledge about Lohri is really limited to all and not only to my mom 🤣

Listen i had finally found my old punjabi book and i was reading a poem, yeah it took me like 5 minutes to read it, it's written in punjabi, well at the end of the poem it is written:

Traslating:

slowly slowly the cold will will reduce
the hot season is coming

The Lohri symbolizes the end of the winter.

Another thing that i forgot to say before that on Lohri people use to make Sarso ka saag.

It is, really, very, important.

  • Basically, what is the Lohri festival? Lohri is a harvest festival where u usually lit a bon-fire in front of their houses and throw popcorns, seaseme, peanuts, puffed rice in bon-fire and sing folk songs.
  • Why is it celebrated? Lohri is basically is to celebrate the harvesting of winter crops and also it is been said as ending of winters.
  • Any specific dress conduct on that day? Hmm..not really, but yes we used to wear traditional punjabi outfits -- girls - punjabi suit salwar and boys, Punjabi kurta pajmas ( they look handsome in those 😳😆 )
  • What is it that you like about this festival? I like how all friends and family sit around and enjoy with each other, singing songs, dancing and doing all fun. Its such a great festival with family.
  • Is this among the most awaited festivals? If yes, why? Yes, not much awaited but we do seek ...for me i look forward for bonfire and spending good time with family.
  • Any specific cooking arrangements made on that day? well! we eat lots of peanuts, jaggery, gajjak, rewri and traditional punjabi food
  • What is the best thing about the festival? Bonfire 😃
