Suspense Done Right - Ek Boond Ishq

A jealous uncle, a scorned son, a damsel in distress and a mystery waiting to be unearthed - this is not an American drama or a Shakespearean tale but in fact the brainchild of BBC Production's latest Hindi love saga Ek Boond Ishq, which airs on Life OK. The series follows the life of two polar opposites - Tara(Chhavi Pandey), a lively young girl who lives for her family and Mrityunjaya (Viraf Phiroz Patel),a man serving a jail sentence for the rape and murder of an unknown victim.
Fate has it that the two are united in holy matrimony must learn to live their lives together. Mrityunjaya is unhappy with the marriage; he is well aware of his destiny, a noose around his neck, and does not wish for his wife to suffer the repercussions of the life after. He also has reasonable doubt that she married him solely for his father's wealth. Without even seeing her face on the first night, he begins to torture her in hopes that she will one day desert him.
While the violence continues behind closed doors, the two become friends in the outside world. Mrityunjaya ends up saving Tara from goons, thus beginning a trustful friendship between the two. When the two discover each other's true identity Tara is furious. She refuses to let Mrityunjaya live in peace and vows to claim her revenge but in the process the two appear to be getting close to each other.
As the misunderstandings between the duo are heading for a clear, the true mystery of the saga unravels with a now deceased victim, Radha - a girl who was allegedly raped and murdered by Mrityunjaya. It being Tara's inherent nature to be magnetized by mysteries, she wishes to discover the truth behind the Radha's existence, much rather her now non-existence.
From the commencement of this mystery on September 9th 2013 until now, the gripping suspense has had a stronghold on its audience. To them, every day is a new mystery. But what is a story without strong characters and what is a character without brilliant actors. Chhavi Pandey as Tara is astounding. Her portrayal of both the soft spoken family oriented Tara and the fierce and vengeful Tara are equally applaudable. Ravi Gossain as Fahim is such a treat to watch and Vishwajeet Pradhan as Kalavati/ Rudrapratap Singh is a masterful innovation. While other actors such as Rakesh Kurrkat, Dishank Arora, Gauri Tonk and Nidhi Uttam are to be noted, it is Viraf Phiroze Patel who takes home the trophy. His character, although a grey shade, is one audiences can't help but fall in love with. As an actor Viraf has the quality to fulfil his character to perfection while keeping with his own identity. Much like the iconic characters Dutta (Mishal Raheja), Dhruv (Rohit Khurrana), Viraj (Karanvir Bohra) and the very recent RK (Vivian Dsena), Mrityunjaya requires that you handle the character with care, which Viraf Phiroze Patel does with perfection.
After many trials and errors this one suspense thriller Indian television has done right!
