Also known as Guru Nanak Gurpurab or Guru Nanak's Prakash Utsav , is the celebration of the birth of the first of the Ten Guru's of Sikhs ,Guru Nanak.
He was born on15th April 1469 ,in Shekhupura district ,which is now located in Pakistan and known as Nanakhana Sahib.
His birthday is celebrated on full moon day in 'Karthik' month according to Indian calendar commonly called as karthik poornima.
How it is celebrated
The hymns chanted in the Guru Nanak's Gurpurab are different from the hymns chanted in other Gurpurab.
Generally two days ahead of the sacred day Akandh Path is conducted in Gurudwaras ,where Granth Sahib(holy book of sikhs) is read ,which continues for 48 hours without a stop .
A Procession Nagarkirtan,led by the Panch Pyare(5 Beloved Ones) is organized . They carry the sikh flag and palanquin of Sri Granth Sahib. The procession move forward chanting several hymns along with devotional songs and brand playing various beats.
On the auspicious day , the celebrations commence at 4 or 5 AM. This time is called Amrit Vela.
Asa-di-Var(morning hymms ) are chanted in early morning time. Katha (exposition of scripture )along with other hymns praising Guru Nanak follows the Asa-di-var.
A community lunch called the Langar is organized in the Gurudwara premises.
After the evening kirtan ,the people gathered in Gurudwara sing Gurbani at 1:20 AM which marks the birth timing of Guru Nanak.
