Indian men should be taught to respect women at home first

Actor Saurabh Raaj Jain on the need to respect woman as equals and his latest telly adventures in an interview with AT

Navya Malini

Aproud son of a mother who practices law and an actor who wants to closely guard his personal life, actor Saurabh Raaj Jain not only took a calculative risk when he took acting and left the management fundas he learnt, but also chalked out a well drafted plan for his showbiz aspirations. Not worried about being stereotyped in an industry that easily typecasts an actor for doing a particular genre,Saurabh confidently puts his best foot forward in Television as he essays the roles of Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu on Mahabharat and Devon Ke Dev Mahadev simultaneously.Saurabh,in a no holds barred interview talks about the technicalities of working in mythological shows,TV gimmicks and more.

What does your life consist of apart from acting and soaking yourself up in TV shows

Whichever profession you are in,the profession becomes a part of your personal life too. So,acting has become a part of me in all synergies.Acting takes inspiration from all the allied fields be it diction, dancing, reading, narrating,I try to imbibe all those things to perfect my acting skills.Thats what I do most of the t i m e.Whenever I am not shooting, and get a two day break, either I go for my dance cl a s s e s (Indian contemporary ) or go swimming.Gymming is part of my regimen and is essential for an actor.

Is dance an add-on after you stepped into acting

In India every child is passionate about dancing.Every state has its dance forms.I used to love bhangra in Delhi.Since I am an actor, now I want to polish my dancing skills professionally.I love to take part in a dance reality if given an opportunity.

Are you not limiting yourself only to mythology, since your current shows deal with that genre

I did Parichay followed by Uttaran where I played a negative role.Stereotyping does not happen on TV today. If I got myself into mythology,I can delve into any other genre into ease.Genres should not be a problem with me at all.Thats how an actor should work.I dont want to limit myself to a genre, language or a particular industry.I will do anything interesting that comes to me.

How relevant is Mahabharat today

The incidents in Mahabharat do have their impact because it says about the cause and effect. What is happening in the country these days makes Mahabharat even more relevant.Mahabharat teaches how to respect women.People are not taking exemplary action to stop violence against women.

Have Indian men changed their perspective on how they look at women and treat them

Change begins with ones upbringing.A root is planted when the boy is raised in an environment that teaches respect for women in the family. This makes a lot of difference. How a son is raised in a family, how he is taught to treat women as equals are important. My inspiration is my mom.My middle name is her name Raaj. She brought us all up me and my two elder sisters.

How often have you come to Ahmedabad

Id come to Ahmedabad to visit my tauji in G a n d h i n a g a r when I was in Class VII.After his demise,I didnt get to v i s i t Gujarat.So,this time its a nost a l g i c v i s i t f o r me.

And it also depends upon the sangati they are keeping with also their environment in which they are living what sort of atmosphere they are moving around and this applies to both male female dpeends upon parents moving in what sort of social groups

Today we all of us need to change ourselves and our nature most especially are surroundings.

media, friends, work place, culture, fashion, glamour, booze, disco pop, everything is changing how people think and behave and their attitude towards life is changing life style is changing

Some people call it modernity and other people in West are inclined towards east and they change towards living like ancient bharatiyas esp russians polish etc just giving examples followers of hare krishna

it also depends upon ongoing trends at that time at a particular place.

tfs i m always proud of srj he is just not amazing actor but amazing human , i had exactly same thoughts.the reason for crime against women is majorly inequality. those who treat women as object of pleasure n mere servant to make oder's life smooth n happy , cannot respect or feel guilty of crime against her. n as women wen she will be mother she should start the trend to change this inequality by teaching her children gender equality n moral, kudos to mrs raaj
