Episode 40

Varahmihir: (to his wife) Prarambh aur ant se tumhara arth kya hai?

Iravati: Kya iska kaal aur aakaash me kahin prarambh hai? Kya kaal aur aakash me iska kahin ant hai?

Varahmihir: Ira. Srishti ke baad pralay aur pralay ke baad srishti.

Avyakt se sookshma, sookshma se sthool, ye srishti ka vikas hai. Sthool se sookshma aur sookshma se avyakt, ye pralay ka vikas hai.

Achchha batao. Ham kaise jagte hain? Jab ham nind me hote hain to hamare sare vichar avyakt avastha me hote hain. Jaise ye mai hun. Mai patni hun. Mai pati hun. Mai Maa hun. Mera ye kaam baki hai. Ye kaam mai kal karunga. Aise sare vichar avyakt roop me hote hain. Par jaise hi ham jagte hain, sabse pehele vichar ate hain. Yani avyakt sookshma roop lete hain. Par jaise hi ham vastav me jagte hain, hamare sookshma vichar kaarya roop me sthool bante jate hain. Jaisa hamare sath hota hai, waisa hi srishti ke rachnakar ke sath bhi hota hai. Pralay kya hai?

Iravati: Jaise jab ham sote hain, to hamare sare sthool kaarya kalaap bandh ho jate hain. Aur we vicharon ke star par simat jate hain. Aur kuchh hi der me vichar bhi vilin ho kar avyakt ho jate hain. To keval SAT hi reheta hai.

Varahmihir: Aur jaise ham sirf ek hi din nahi sote, har din sote hain aur har din jagte hain waise hi Brahmand me Srishti aur pralay nirantar chalta reheta hai.

(Later in Iran with Shehenshah Nausheravan)

Nausheravan: Varahmihir. Kai dino se mai Bharat ke srishti ke darshan ko samajhne ki koshish kar raha hun. Bharat ke rishi kehete hain ki srishti ki rachna ke 2 kaaran hain. Ek upaadaan kaaran aur dusara nimitt kaaran.
Varahmihir: Aap bilkul thik keh rahe hain.

Nausheravan: Jaise ghade ka udaharan lijiye. Ghade ki mitti yah ghade ka upaadaan kaaran hai. Aur use bananawala kumbhar, yah ghade ka nimitt kaaran hai. Dusare shabdon me mitti yah upaadaan, aur kumbhar, yah nimitt. Aap kehete hain ki srishti ki rachna me wah vastu jisse ye srishti bani hai aur wah jisne yah srishti banai hai, dono ek hain. Aur ham sabhi dekh sakte hain ki ghade ki rachna me mitti aur kumbhar dono alag alag hain. To nimitt aur upaadaan dono ek kaise ho sakte hain?

Varahmihir: Samrat. Mai aapko udaharan de kar samajhata hun. Aapne makdi ko jaal bunte to dekha hi hoga.

Nausheravan: Haan dekha hai.

Varahmihir: Jaal kisse banta hai?

Nausheravan: (feeling it like a joke or obvious answer) Makdi se.

Varahmihir: Kaun banata hai?

Nausheravan: Khud makdi hi.

Varahmihir: Yani upaadaan aur nimitt ek hi hain.

Nausheravan: Haan. Makdi ke sath aisa ho sakta hai, par...

Varahmihir: To chaliye. Ham uski baat karte hain jo ham sabke jeevan ka hissa hai. Kya aap sapne dekhte hain?

Nausheravan: Haan dekhta hun!!

Varahmihir: Sapne ko kaun bunta hai?

Naushervan: Hamara man.

Varahmihir: Aur swapn jagat ke ped, pahad, phool, nadiyan aur log kisse bante hain?

Nausheravan: Man se hi!

Varahmihir: To sapne ka upaadaan aur nimitt ek hi hain na?

Naushervan: (Surprised) Srishti ki rachna ka yah vichar, pure vishwa me anokha hai!!!!

Varahmihir: Ise ham Abhinnanimittopaadaan kaaran kehete hain.

(Then in the immediate next scene when he was explaining his sons about Lord Vishnu's sankalp to create the universe)

Iravati: Aap bhi pauranik kahaniyan sunane lage??!

Varahmihir: Ira. In kahaniyon me hi, Upanishadon ka sach chhupa hai.

Episode 26

Prajapati: Indra!! (There is something very unique and interestingly imitable and memorable about the style of K K Raina speaking this word INDRA everytime in this episode) Tum to santusht ho kar Virochan ke sath chale gaye the!! Phir wapis kaise ana hua???

Indra: He Bhagvan! Yadi ye aatmaa hi sharir hai jo sundar alankaran pehenne par sundar dikhai deta hai, sundar vastra dhaaran karne se sushobhit hota hai, to sharir ke andha hone par aatmaa bhi andhaa hoga. Sharir ke apang hone par aatmaa bhi apang hoga. Sharir ke marne par aatmaa bhi marega. Aise gyan me mujhe koi saar dikhai nahi deta Bhagvan.

(Then again next time)

Prajapati: Indra! Tum wapis kyun aa gaye?

Indra: Ye sach hai aacharya ki swapnaavastha me sharir andhaa hai to aatmaa andhaa nahi hota. Sharir apang hai to aatmaa apang nahi hota. Par phir bhi swapn me wo peeda bhog sakta hai. Aise gyan me mujhe koi saar dikhai nahi deta.

(Then once again)

Sapno ke bina ki nind to lagbhag mrityu hi hai! Aise gyan me mujhe koi saar dikhai nahi deta.

(Finally Indra getting the true knowledge about Aatmaa and transferring the same to all Devas - great background music and classical voice of Aalaap Desai and wonderful command over speech of Abhimanyu Sinh)

Indra: Yah aakaash ashariri hai. Aakaarheen hai. Megh ashariri hai. Bijli aakaarheen hai. Par megh aur bijli, kuchh kshano ke liye aakaar lete hain aur phir aakaash me vilin ho jate hain. Aakaash wahi reheta hai. Aatmaa wahi reheti hai, par sharir, badalon ki tarah bante hain, aur phir aatmaa me hi vilin ho jate hain. Jo yah jan lete hain ki we ye sharir nahi hain, we dehmukt ho, haste khelte aanand me raman karte hain. We jante hain ki aatmaa sharir nahi hai, par aatmaa sharir se kuchh samay ke liye bandha hua sa lagta hai. Jaise beil ek gaadi se. Devon jab tum aakaash ki aur dekhte ho to kaun dekhta hai? Dekhti aankhen hain, par dekhnewala aatmaa hai. Jab tum sunte ho to sunte kaan hain, par sunnewala, aatmaa hai. Jab tum sunghte ho, to sunghta naak hai, par sunghnewala aatmaa hai. Isliye devon, indriyan keval upakaran hain. Isliye, aatmaa ki upasna karo. Sharir ki nahi. Indriyon ki nahi.

(Concept of Anaatmanah is again and again covered in various episodes such as Arunagirinathar, Jadbharat and Abhimanyu and three states of consciousness are also covered in Janak-Ashtavakra episode.)

Episode 18

Aacharya Vishnugupt (Chanakya) to all other aachaaryas (excellent classical background music again): Aachaarya!! Jisne Bharatvarsh ko aatmaheenta, parajay ki nirasha, aur Yunani shaasan ki daastaan se mukt karaya ho kya usse bhi shresth nayak, Magadh me koi hai?

Ye raashtra aap jaise vidvano ko kabhi kshama nahi karega, jo vedvani ka galat arth laga rahe hain.

Ye Prithvi hame dhaaran karti hai, hamara paalan karti hai. Isliye ye shoodra hai????!!!!! Ye Prithvi hame jal deti hai, phal deti hai, ann deti hai. Isliye ye Prithvi shoodra hai?????!!!!! Aachaarya! Shoodra to uske charan hain, jiski aankhen Soorya hai, jiska man Chandrama hai, aur Vayu jiski saanse hain.

Meri drishti me, janm se koi Braahman, koi Kshatriya, koi Vaishya aur koi Shoodra nahi hota. Aur uski ghoshna mai nahi, Ved aur rishi Yagnvalkya karte hain. Aur samast rishi uska samarthan karte hain.

Mai to Rajneeti padhata hun aachaarya. Vedant to aap padhate hain. Kya kaha tha Mithila ke raja Janak aur sabha me, rishi Yagyavalkya ne jab Aacharya Kohad ne prashna kiya tha?

Aacharya! Isliye Braahman wohi hai jo Brahm ko janta hai. Kuchh log to kahenge, ye to Braahman ke lakshan nahi. Braahman, Braahman parivar me paida hota hai. Aur wo janm ke kaaran hi Braahman hota hai. Par mai keheta hun. Jo Brahm ko janta hai wahi Braahman hai. Baki sabhi Braahman nahi hain. We sab mrityu aur shok ke graas hain. Kya Yagyavalkya ke shabdon me janm se judi varnvyavastha ke viruddha chhipi chunauti nahi thi? Kya nahi keh raha hai Ved ka rishi ki mai gaayak hun. Mere pita vaid hain?

Ye Braahman, ya Kshatriya, ye lok, ye dev, ye bhoot, ye sarva, ye aatmaa hi to hai. Aacharya!! To phir koi shresth aur koi heen kaisa? Yadi Bhaargav Ram, Parshuram parshu utha sakte hain aur ikkis baar Kshatriyon ka vinash kar sakte hain; to Chandragupt bhi raajdand dharan kar sakta hai. Yadi Vishwarath Vishwamitra, Braahman ban sakte hain, to Chandragupt bhi Kshatriya ban sakta hai. Yadi Lomharshan Shoodra, Vyaspad pa sakte hain, to Karn ko bhi shastravidhya sikhne ka adhikar milna chahiye. Aacharya! Meri drishti me, har vyakti aseem sambhavnaon ka swami hai. Aur un sambhavanaon ke dwar kholna hi, varnvyavastha ka uddeshya hona chahiye.

Aur Chandragupt, jisne mahan parakram kiya, wo Braahmano ko swikar kyun nahi?? Uttar mai deta hun aacharya. Kyun ki Nand nirdayi the (Serious silence). Ab nirnay aapko karna hai. Par ek baat yaad rakhiyega. Yadi is baar, Chandragupt ka maarg, swarg ke devtaon ne bhi roka, to mai Vishnugupt, unse danav ban kar ladunga.

"Janm se har manushya Shoodra hota hai. Sanskar se wah Dwij hota hai. Vedon ke adhyayan se wah Vipra hota hai. Aur jo Brahm ko jaan leta hai, wohi Braahman ho jata hai."

Recently I watched some episodes of 'Upanishad Ganga' randomly and thought to express my experience here 😊.

At first I want to mention about the direction, again. The Unique Setting of the episodes- Stage, Outdoor/ Studio locations, the use of 'Sutradhar'/ anchor (even the the costumes of the anchors are acc. to the theme/ characters of the episodes! ⭐️ ),  the use of Lighting (on stage), the Shlokas at the Beginning and  at the End of every episode, with their Meaning (which gives us Wisdom and I feel they also convey an element of Humility on the part of the presenters ⭐️ ) - all these features make this series so so Special!!!! ⭐️ ⭐️   Really want to appreciate the Whole Team of 'Upanishad Ganga' for this novel endeavour!!! ⭐️  We are so so grateful to them for bringing all the rich heritage through such simple yet priceless episodes! The Simple, Direct approach is another chief feature of the series ⭐️. It has nothing extra in it, always working with the minimum characters, set, dialogue, music- all the episodes are so focused on the topic!!!! These qualities are really missing in most of the TV Series of recent times (of course there are exceptions also 😊, but stilll, ) 'Upanishad Ganga' has done really a marvellous job!!! No words are enough to thank 'Chinmaya Mission' and all the persons related to the series ⭐️

Now coming to the episodes-

Episode 23 - Glory of Human Birth - Story of Tulsidas

Tulsidas's life is shown and the ideals on which he was working, has been mentioned in a nice way. All the hardships faced by Tulsidasji was unable to diminish his spirit. In fact we can say his struggles have made him more wise. He was so touched by the downfall of morality in society of his time, that he decided to compose a text where all the Ideals/ Virtues will be shown through the story of his God- Shri Ram. We feel like bowing our head to the Noble Aim of Tulsidasji to uplift the society from wrong influences of that time. Both the dialogues by Tulsidas- to his wife and to Todarmal, are nicely written, able to evoke our emotion, realising  the Greatness of the character of Goswami Tulsidas.

Episode 33 - Bondage - Story of Puranjan

Beginning is comic πŸ˜† but the rest of the episode tells us the truth behind the concept of 'Bondage' with the story of Puranjan. I was amazed by the story when I read it for the first time from 'Shrimad Bhagwat'!!...  Here, they showed the story in short, but the words by Avigyaat are so True!!! We just need to think deeply about all those messages given in the episodes, through them we will be able to move more and more towards our Final Destination 😊.

Episode 35 - God- The Three Questions

An intelligent episode. Another of my favourite ⭐️. The questions which come in the mind of any common man about God are dealt with, in this episode.  The explanation given by the lady are so creative yet reflecting the Truth ⭐️ - Superb!!!

Episode 40 - The Creation - Story of Varahamihira

(Dialogue on page )

A great episode indeed!!! One of my really really favourite!!!! Mainly because of the way it handles the subject matter- i.e.- Creation. Firstly, the person who played the role of Varah Mihir - Gagan Malik, has done such a great job!!!! ⭐️  His quiet eyes, down-to-earth behaviour and the Truth reflected in all his words- are the main things which make this episode so special!!!

The mystrery of creation, which can be found in  Spiritual texts are presented in such simple language and with such ordinary examples, that it becomes very easy for the audience  to grasp the essence of the process.I am sure, any person who has realised the truth hidden  in those words of Varah Mihir, will be able to see the creation with a new vision, after watching the episode!!!! Knowledge just removes the veil of ignorance from us. I am so happy to watch this episode, to be able to feel and realise the Truth of the words by Varah Mihir 😊, such an enriching experience!!!

Episode 44 - Inborn Traits - Story of Mohan-Rajkumari and Story of Sant Eknath

The first part deals with outward attraction, its reason (ignorance), and how Satsang along with 'Saatvik' food can help us to remove the ignorance. All those points are so True!

I personally liked the second part of the story more than the first part. The second part tells us how we all get influenced even by the casual work we do in our life. The son-in-law of Sant Eknath himself started soul searching when he was just casually teaching scriptures to his wife πŸ˜ƒ. In some way or the other, Knowledge makes its effect felt on all the receptive souls, which is under a temporary spell of ignorance. The way Eknath attained his aim (i.e.- correcting his son-in-law's ways, bringing him back to the right track) is so praiseworthy!!! ⭐️   All the Words of Wisdom at the end of the episode from Sant Eknath are so valuable!!! They are to be meditated upon...

Episode 46 - Advanced spiritual practices - Story of Khandikya and Keshidhvaja from Vishnu Purana

Loved the episode as it highlights the way we can move from ordinary to a Higher level. The story shows us how Khandikya overpowered his lower nature (i.e.- hatred, represented by his counsel/ friends) and acted acc. to his Knowledge/ wisdom, which led him to realising the Aatman, with the help of the very person whom he considered to be his enemy 😊...  Keshidhwaj was a noble person and Khandigya also became a noble person by conquering his nature!!! Such an inspiring story!

Episode 47 - The attitude when performing action, Karma Yoga

A special episode because of the way Tansen narrates about his Guru. The Purity and Surrendership which is reflected in the voice (rather 'gaayaki') of Sant Haridas), is itself a proof of the Purity of his 'being'. In the beginning of the episode, we get a glimpse of the elevated level of Sant Haridas, when he explains to Tansen to find his Aim of singing, while answering Tansen's question about improving his performance. This dialogue itself gives us a hint about the theme of the rest of the episode 😊

In a way we can say that Sant Haridas of this ep has reached the same stage as Paravailla Swami of ep 52, where they do not need to care about the society, they have reached their Aim of life, they have already attained 'Liberation' 😊.

'Isliye mere Guru, mujhse, shreshth hain.' - These words by Tansen at the end of the episode are so True that they bring tears in our eyes realising the Sincerity of Sant Haridas!!!  And just in the previous scene,  'Aur mera Ramtanu, Tansen, itna kachcha nahi ho sakta ki sur sadhne me gachcha kha jay.' - these words by Sant Haridas shows us that the teacher already knew about the Aim of his student (i.e.- to make his teacher sing, so that the king can listen to him) and still continued the game 😊. Such a memorable moment!!! ⭐️. The sweetness of this scenes just makes our heart melt... ⭐️.  Great performance by both K K Raina and Gagan Malik ⭐️

Episode 51 - Liberation - Story of Parvailla Swami

Another Great episode!!

The Wise Words by the 'sutradhar' at the end of the episode regarding thories of 'Karma' and also about the concepts of 'Jeevanmukti' and 'Videhamukti' are explained in really simple words, so as to make it easy for us to understand them ⭐️

The story reminded me of the story of a mendicant, from 'Uddhava Geeta' (Chapter 18)/ Shrimad Bhaagwat (Skanda 11, Chapter 23)., where the story of another such mendicant is narrated who realised the uselessness of sansara, who was above any insult or appreciation by members of society. This story Of Paravailla Swami also proved how all the ordinary rules of samsara are of no value to a man who has realised the All Illuminating Self, the Aatman.
