Love Stories have always been the most popular genre of Bollywood films. However, if one takes a look at some of last year's films, the way of expressing love and its different connotations has definitely changed and evolved in our films. Read and find out for yourself in the Valentine's Day special feature…

Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu

The promos of this Imran Khan-Kareena Kapoor starrer gave an impression that it was yet another run-of-the-mill candy-floss love story. But that was not to be. Boy meets girl, boy and girl are completely opposite to each other, yet they become friends. So far so predictable! Boy loves girl but girl prefers having him 'just as a friend' than getting romantically involved. So they continue to stay Friends Forever even as the end credits roll…Must say quite a hatke twist.

Vicky Donor

Besides being a film about a sperm donor, Vicky Donor had a rather beautiful love story between the Punjabi munda (Ayushmann) and the Bong babe (Yaami Gautam). This love story focused on cross-cultural differences in a very relatable manner. The scene in which the Punjabi and Bengali families meet and finalize the marriage was hilarious followed by the Bongs dancing to the beats of the Punjabi dhol in 'Rum Whisky' song.

Barfi!

Easily the most unconventional and hatke love triangles ever seen in Bollywood, Barfi! featured a deaf/mute boy falling in love with an autistic girl even as his first love still yearns for him. Packed by superlative performances by Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'cruz, this one touched a chord within your heart and made you moist-eyed.

Teri Meri Kahaani

Kunal Kohli's Teri Meri Kahaani spoke about soul-mates meeting, falling in love and separating across 3 different eras. So you have Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra romancing each other in 1910, then again in 1960 and finally in 2012. However, the whole journey was so long-drawn that it became an arduous watch.

Cocktail

Despite being in his forties, Saif Ali Khan managed to romance two (much younger in age than him) girls- Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty in his home production Cocktail. Homi Adajania delved into modern-day relationships which focus more on one night stands, live-in relationships rather than lifelong commitment. However, the climax to this love triangle did go the cliched way!

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

The 'King of Romance' Yash Chopra weaved a love story in his last outing. However, this time it was a love story where God had the final say. After all, Katrina's character decides that she can't break her promise made to Jesus and sacrifices her love for SRK instead. However since it's a Bollywood film, there has to be a Happy Ending and God made sure that the lovers unite.

Ishaqzaade

Debutant Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra starred as a duo who simply love to hate each other in Habib Faisal's rustic Ishaqzaade. For most of the film, Arjun and Parineeti were at logger-heads only to later fall head over heels in love with each other. In the end, they did get together but not before sacrificing their own lives for the sake of their love.

Ek Tha Tiger

Kabir Khan's blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger had a lot of deadly action sequences but at the core of it, this was a love story between an Indian RAW agent (Salman Khan) and a Pakistani spy (Katrina Kaif). The film did face some opposition in Pakistan because of its slightly controversial topic but in India it was loved by one and all emerging the biggest blockbuster of 2012.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi

A love story with a difference! Bela Sehgal's film depicted the love story between 2 middle-aged people proving that there indeed is no age limit to fall in love. Both Farah Khan and Boman Irani were perfectly cast as the much in love Parsi couple but the film didn't really find many takers at the B.O.

Aiyyaa

We've all heard of 'Love at first sight' but what happens when it's a case of 'Love at first smell'. The maverick Anurag Kashyap along with debutant director Sachin Kundalkar decided to go the irreverent way in Aiyyaa where you had Rani Mukerji's character fall in love with a man (Prithviraj) purely for the way he smells. While the promos were impressive, the film went completely trippy leaving people clueless by the end of it all.
