100 Cr. Movies vs 124 Cr. Population

India's Total Population is 124 Cr. approx.

let me assume that avg cost of a movie ticket is Rs.100 .

if a movie collects 100 Cr, that means only 1 Cr. people watched that movie in theaters.

so majority of people doesn't want to waste their hard earned money and time to watch these movies in theaters and wait to watch them on TV or online.

what does this mean? what about the remaining 123 Cr. people?

Urm... yes but you have forgot one factor. India has a huge population that's true BUT it's one of those countries who has the hugest amount of poor people. Forget money for ticket they don't even have the money for a living.

1. Not all the 124 cr are interested in watching movies.

2. There are some who like to watch movie on pirated DVD. Why waste Rs.500-800 when the whole family can watch the movie on DVD worth Rs. 60?

3. In some areas there are cable operators who telecast the movie within the first week of the release.

4. There are many people who can't afford watching movie as India is not a rich country.

5. Some regions in India prefer to watch movie in their language.

6. Tickets are free for children below 3 years.

7. I have seen many couples who lose interest in watching movies in theaters after becoming parents(specially when the child grows up).

8. Most of the old people don't go for movies.

9. There are families where there is restriction for watching movies(specially women).

10. There are places in India where there are no cinema halls or they are quite far away.

Compared to earlier days, today the population is much higher...so the ratio of fan following also increases. they go and watch their favourites in theatre.
And today the ticket rates are higher mostly range from Rs.100-400 in plexus...compared to single screens which has highest of Rs100 tickets( for eg)
And if movie is big banner...the ticket rates are further increased.

Hence I dont consider any film good only bcoz it has fared good on BO...if the film has pull(read fav) the film will gross the money...as in case of 100 cr club.

There are also some people who watch the same movie more than once. I mean, yeah a movie can be really good. But even I didn't watch 3 Idiots more than once in the theaters. Doesn't make sense to me.

Waiting for all the movies to be Direct to TV movies. Save the money wasted on movies and use it for something useful! As it is most of the big movies too are shown within a month or 2 on TV.
