"Virat", "Virat please listen to me. I said I'm sorry." Manvi tried her best to pacify her boyfriend of 4 years but he wasn't having any of it.
"No Manvi you listen to me." Virat held her shoulders and tried talking some sense to her. "I haven't seen you for the past two weeks! You hang out more with those geeks from Harvard than me."
Manvi sat on the bed frustrated. This is not what she'd anticipated. After weeks of laboring through classes and getting tortured day and night by the geeks to solve the canoe problem she wanted to relax and spend some quality time with her boyfriend. But he was adamant on ruining her only free day.
"What do you want me to do Virat? Leave college so that I can hang out with you more often?" She covered her face with her hands. She knew she'd taken him for granted but shouldn't he be more understanding? It is not like she was partying all these days. For god sake she was in the lab working her ass off.
"No Manvi. That is not what I asked for. All I am asking for, is your time. I don't want to be on top of your priority list, I just want to be on your list." He sat down next to her. He wanted her to understand him. He wasn't asking her to give him all her time but one phone call, one text that is all he was asking for.
She lifted her head up and looked at him. "Virat I don't know how else can I convince you. I can't throw it all you know, I can't throw it all for you." She got up and stood next to the window. At 2 in the morning, the street below looked dead, just like her life at the moment. She decided it was time to let him go. There was no point in making him wait for her; who knew when her life would be back to normal. She'd worked hard through high school to get in one of the best engineering schools. It didn't help that both of her parents were graduates from the same school and hence expectations were quite high from her. She'd started dating Virat from sophomore year of high school and he'd helped her throughout, he'd stood by her like a pillar. But today it was time to let him go; she couldn't keep him waiting forever could she? She wanted him to be with someone who deserved him and could love him back equally.
She turned back and realized he was waiting for her to say something. How ironic was this! He was waiting for her to finish her thoughts; if he stays any longer with her he will end up waiting like always. She couldn't face him so she turned her back towards him. "V.. V.. V" She couldn't bring herself to even say his name.
As soon as he heard her stutter he realized something was wrong. Worried for her he moved closer to her and hugged her from behind. He cursed himself for stressing her. She already had enough shit to deal with and now he too was making it hard for her. He kissed her neck and apologized. "Baby I'm sorry. You finally got off school for a day and I started with my accusations. You know lets forget it all, you are here with me tonight and that is what matters to me." He kissed her earlobes.
She was losing her senses but she couldn't do this to him.
Using every ounce of energy in her she pushed him away and said the unthinkable, "I think we should take a break."
Confusion, frustration, hurt and finally anger, she watched as his facial expressions changed by the second. She was well aware of his temper but she'd never been on the receiving end of it until today.
"Dammit Manvi" he grabbed a vase and flung it towards the dresser. Manvi stood rooted to the floor, scared for her life. She knew he'd never hurt her, nevertheless watching him throw the vase gave her goose bumps.
He went to the bathroom and banged the door shut. He needed to calm down first. Throwing things and screaming would only make it worse. He saw how scared she looked and he felt ashamed at himself for losing it in front of a girl. Great she must have run away now, who wouldn't after witnessing a crazed man. He splashed cold water on his face and tried to think straight. He knew he loved her and life without her was unimaginable. What about her? Was she not interested in him anymore? Did she find someone else?
He stepped outside the bathroom only to find her standing at the same spot he'd left her. He let out a chuckle, "You can sit Manvi. I'm not going to kill you."
She placed her hand on her chest and heaved a sigh of relief. Wary of his anger she asked, "Are you alright?"
What he supposed to answer? No I can never be alright without you, hell I'll die without you? That would make him look possessed and she would probably run away screaming 'bachao (help)'. So he just nodded his head. Too bad for him he couldn't keep the faade up much longer. After few minutes of silence he lost it again, he pulled her closer and asked urgently, "Whats wrong Manvi? What have I done? Why?"
Manvi watched him silently refusing to answer him. He moved away from her.
"You don't love me." It was a statement. "Do you have feelings for someone else?"
She jerked his hands and grabbed his collar. "How dare you Virat? After 4 years together how dare you make presumptions about me!?"
"Then what is it?" He wasn't giving up until she told him the truth.
"I love you but I can't keep you hanging. You need to move on. You deserve someone better, you deserved to be loved Virat but I am in no state to give you that." She truthfully answered.
He was angry now. How dare she make decision for the both of them! He cornered her against the wall "You listen to me Manvi Chaudhary and listen carefully, neither am I walking away nor am I letting you walk away. You have no right to decide what it right for me and what is not. If this is the price I have to pay to be with you so be it. I will survive. Do what you have to, get all As, hang out with geeks, win the nationals for concrete canoe, go for internship at the Department of Transportation. But don't you dare talk about taking a break." He warned.
She kissed him fiercely and in between kisses said, "How do you manage everything? You are a damn good musician, you too are attending one of the best music schools yet you always find time for me."
He kissed her back passionately and somehow managed to answer her question too, "That is because you are on top of my priority list. I love you and that is enough for the both of us."
She unbuttoned his shirt, "I love you too."
He took her top off, "Love you more."
He pushed her on the bed and lay on top of her. Both felt each other up, trying to make up for the lost time.
"I missed you." He whispered.
"Me too." She simply replied.
SONG FOR THE UPDATE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cot34uy2gSg&feature=fvst
Life was getting depressing and I needed to write something to feel better again.
If you have read the note in Perfect life you probably figured out that Manvi's life in this OS is pretty similar to mine. BUT before your imagination runs wild there is no Virat in my life and Virat's parts are solely fiction đ. Guys like Virat don't exist, atleast I haven't met any and for now I'm good with being single; too much going on already.
Moral of my mindless rambling: Single chicks rock because they can give you random OSs as they don't have boyfriends waiting on them đ
Okay gotta finish solving this equation to see how much load this canoe can handle. This weekend pour day for the concrete canoe and man I will be as busy as Pres Obama. No kidding.
