On World Food Day, some of our STAR Plus foodies share their favourite Indian fares. Indian cuisine is appeasing global taste buds. Modern and even traditional Indian style of cooking has flavoured the international palate and is changing world appetite.

Sooraj

The traditional Rajasthani dish daal baati churma is my favourite. Though I like gawar patha quite a lot too, but since Sandhyaji is not too keen on it, I end up cooking and sharing the former dish often. North Indian food has its own flavour and unique style of cooking. Golden brown deeply broiled round wheat balls brushed with ghee, dipped in daal and enjoyed hot, is the world's best food for me. You can use five lentils daal and churmamade of wheat flour, besan and sooji for a wholesome food for your family!

Khushi

As you all know how much I relish jalebis and chana. But apart from these, I love spiced lemon rice too. The mustard seeds and lemon peel, add a distinctive taste to the dish. This is a vitamin C rich food and it is also very easy to cook. You can use lots of green chilies to make it as spicy as you want. Garnished with nuts and dry fruits, coriander or mint leaves, it will leave you wanting for more.

Jeevika

Traditional Punjabi food chana masala is my all-time favourite. It can be cooked in various methods, with or without tomatoes, with lots of coriander paste or with different spices to add that extra zing. For the health conscious, it can be cooked in olive oil with herbs and finely grated ginger and onion. It is best served withbhature (puffed bread of white flour) or you can have it with naan, kulcha or plain rice. Chickpeas are a good source of proteins, vitamins, minerals and fibres. Enjoy your food!

With the integration of global style of cooking in Indian cuisine, our food is definitely reinventing itself. Which is your favourite global Indian food? Share with us your adaptations of various Indian flavours. Happy eating on World Food Day!
