Please explain Bashing...|Anyone???

I was moved to make this post because since joining this forum I am still unclear as to what the term "bashing" means according to forum rules. I am getting a lot of conflicting opinions so I've decided to look into to the matter myself so I can be assured as to what bashing means.

Bashing:-
-Violent physical assault.



-Severe criticism a harsh, gratuitous, prejudicial attack on a person, group or subject.

-It is a term meaning to hit or assault, but when it is used as a suffix, or in conjunction with a noun indicating the subject being attacked, it is normally used to imply that the act is motivated by bigotry^. The term is also used metaphorically, to describe verbal or critical assaults.

Criticism:- The expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes. The analysis and judgment of a literary or artistic work

Based on the definitions above and my own little research someone can only be called a "Basher" or accuse of "bashing if:

-Their comments or actions are uncalled for, lacking good reason, unwarranted and harmful to someone.

- Their behavior, opinion and attitude have to be intolerable towards those who hold a different opinion than they do in other words the person has to have a "bigoted" attitude.

Okay...so have I ever come across any opinions or posts that are in line with the terms defined above? Have I come across bigoted statements or posts?...NO!! So I am now wondering why we are told not to bash when bashing itself is too much of a strong word to use in context to the things that happen within this forum. In an environment where everyone's opinion differs and everyone sees things differently it's kind of hard to hard to say what is severe and what is not. Unless of course if comments are prejudicial and lacking morality.

Constructive Criticism:- is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one.

I believe a lot of times constructive criticism is deemed as bashing and that can be quite discouraging for some of us who actually love our show and want to see things improve so I think the whole "Bashing" subject should be thoroughly examined and explained clearly as to avoid further problems.
