YOU GO GIRL!!!!!! šš OMG, I want to give you a BIG JHAPPI for this Crooner!! š¤ Kudos to you for reminding the CVs to STOP BEING THE FREAKIN' MORAL POLICE! AMEN!š Kiss kiya toh darna kya? Seriously, what century are we living in?? I was so ready to go fultoo SNARK today, but you said it better than I ever could! I agree with you on everything else too! Loved the format of the Crooner, too...we'll have it anyway it comes!!āļø And the pics...so *DEAD* Phew, breathe, Anjali, breathe!!!
The shankh marked the new beginning for me...yet again...How does a man who never believed in love come full circle in his feelings? How does a man even acknowledge what that love is? Today, ASR answered the "I" in "I Love You." A singular purpose...crossing thresholds once again, and finally, to bring it all home! He was Roark personified for me, yaar. Answerable only to himself...and only for her! Not a confession, not a declaration. Just a hard cold FACT!
An auspicious start, after prayers said, and marking the sanctity of the occasion. Dadi's reluctant blessing, talk of progeny, and a gorgeous Khushi, curls, sari et al, was enough to get our man completely under the spell. After days of doing everything her way, today it was doing everything right by her in his own way. The suhagraat setup the way he envisioned...a gift of gorgeous clothing, candles on the table, flowers set on the bed--because this feels right to him...her dream and their reality in place...
"Main Hairaan Hoon
Tumhen Kya Kahu
Ke Din Mein Hui Kaisi Chaandani
Jaagi Jaagi Si Hai Phir Bhi
Khwaabon Mein Hai
Khoyi Khoyi Zindagi"
She dresses herself in that beautiful lehenga, her eyes afraid, eyes wary at the thought of exposure...Her dupatta, her "laaj" missing...He crosses the threshold between them, holding that red duppata, approaches, trust in his eyes, his intentions sincere, leads her away from her fear, and then drapes it on her forehead...That day in the GH when she spoke of the pallu in her outfit, it was the stars that had actually provided cover...Today, he remembers what she said. Where once his hand served as a proxy for his intentions, today, the very piece of clothing that defines her, that defines who she is to him, was given its rightful place by him! Acknowledging and respecting every part of her as his...Main aisa hi hoon, yes, that is just the way he is!
"The heart decides and what it decides is all that really matters."
~Paulo Coelho, By the River Piedra I Sat and Wept
Tradition, reeti-riwaj, the voices of ancestors, all speak to Khushi as he lays her down...A sense of the incomplete gnawing at her soul. Phere...to him, it becomes about her desire to walk around the sacred fire, about the holy witness...Passion-ah, junoon- overthrows everything else, as he leads her onto the terrace...Yes, Priya, the very space which has been witness to so much...The very space where the angst and the anguish began...where 6 months prior, he took the decision to make her his own...in pretense...when it meant nothing to him...Today, the singular focus is on what would it take to cross into that threshold and become ONE. Under those STARS! For him, she is already his...tum meri patni hoh, aur mere saath mere ghar mein reh rahi hoh...If the tradition of walking around the fire is required so be it...7/8 phere he asks...the numbers don't matter to him, he is only going through the motions for her. Khushi sees Dadi right as they argue about the definition of their marriage...a silent witness to the fire and the bride and groom...an uninvited guest who will question everything she has seen... As if reading Dadi's mind, Khushi is afraid of the implications of their words! YET HE REMAINS STEADY...HIS EYES LEVEL WITH HIS GRANDMOTHER'S...HE HAS NOTHING TO HIDE...HE LOVES THIS WOMAN AND THATS IT!
But Khushi's heart doesn't listen, she questions him about what is sacred? She questions him about his defiance to tradition, values, norms, what does matter? He answers: what about feelings, what about us...She still doesn't relent...Then, a new dichotomy: between farq padta hai and farq nahi padta hai...For her "everything else" matters, too...But, for him, only one thing counts...He answers his own question....he tells her her why nothing else is relevant, why he did not let go of her in front of Dadi, in front of a JUDGMENTAL world... Yes, there is only ONE ETERNAL TRUTH...and thats all that matters: The "I" in "I LOVE YOU, DAMMIT!" Conviction, principles. Defined. A CONFLUENCE of HEART & MIND!
But it eclipses the "I"--ultimately, it is all about HER...the YOU...in that statement! They are now in that other realm...that "alag duniya" he referred to when he reenacted Ranjha......Yes, the fire has purged the old, and brought everything that is "gospel" to the forefront...You said it beautifully, yaar,"those flames engulfed all those that were not meant to be, and solemnized all that was always meant to be."š Her smile was really everything we needed to see her acknowledging his truth...That soul found its harbor. Finally.
"Sach Yeh Ikraar Hai Sach Yahi Pyar Hai
Baaki Bandhan Hai Sab Jhuth Ke
Meri Saanson Mein Hai Ghul Rahi Pyar Ki..."
Javed Sahab couldn't have penned more beautiful lyrics for our own ASR!šš
Other Thoughts~
~Anjali's web is š¤¢...nothing more to say abt her pathological state...Her smiles during the puja gave her away, too...
~That white box Khushi was pushing=Pandora's Box that has partially opened? Oooh, Dadi's field day starts NOW!š¤¢
~Ok, so that mysterious black bag held candles? Wha????š
~Absolutely LOVED that Baal-Gopal & the jhoola they used in the puja scene...So, so beautiful!
~The red lehenga...Does he have exquisite taste or what?? The doris in the back of that blouse...ah, reminded me of the hut scene!āŗļø She looked gorgeous! Absolutely, yaar, we need that stylist to work on all of Khushi's wardrobe!
~Purple sari--bit too chikni chameli for me!š¤¢
~Puja mein sirf biwi ke darshaan, bhagwaan ke nahi!𤣠How many times did he give her "the look"???
~My only gripe was in the bedroom scene as he lays her down...did not come across as natural to me...a bit too staged and stiff!
Sobti's one word and one-liners need a section of their own:"UNBELIEVABLE, JUST DO IT, MAIN AISA HI HOON, I LOVE YOU, DAMMIT!" JUNOON PERSONIFIED...what a presence onscreen, man!!! And this junoon is going to serve well moving forward; can't wait! Sanaya just makes every outfit look beautiful...that lehenga was made for her...She stole my heart in that last shot...Finally, a kudos to the writers...outstanding, outstanding screenplay! This ride just gets better and better...
I am going to end with a song that came to mind as soon as he said "I LOVE YOU, DAMMIT." A fav of mine by a band that is close to perfection, too...All I want is You, by U2:
"But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
When all I want is you..."
