Just a little something that popped into my mind. But after a few friends requesting a different ending I made two versions. I'll post both only if you guys want me to!(:

Hold My Hand(Version 1)

"Papa!! Are we there yet?" Anjali shouted from the backseat of the SUV.

"Anji, we're almost there. Calm down. Stop jumping up and down and how many times do I have to tell you to put on your seatbelt!?" Arnav shouted, glaring at the innocent face his seven year old was making through the rear view mirror, just like her mother, he thought, the same impatience, excitement, innocence, and the same carelessness...he sighed shutting his eyes.

About ten minutes later, Anjali looked out the window and began clapping excitedly. Arnav looked back at her, her eyes shone with same excitement and the smile reflected the same happiness, she was just like her mother.

He parked the car, and got out. Before he even reached the back door Anjali jumped out, dashing straight toward the lake. Arnav let out a exasperated sigh before jogging after Anjali.

"Anji slow down! What did say about running?" Arnav whisper scolded Anjali.

"Sorry Papa...It won't happen again." She whispered back, looking down, hiding her teary eyes, which, just like her mother's, he couldn't bare.

"Oh Anji. Don't cry. Please. You know I just don't want anything to happen to you...Sorry?" Anjali smiled up at her Papa, instantly forgiving him just like her mother, and he smiled back. "Good, now let's go."

They headed towards the river, side by side. Arnav watched as Anjali jumped after a butterfly. She was so full of life, of happiness, of beauty, of love just like her mother.

"Papa?" Arnav looked at Anjali questioningly. "Can we go across the river by stepping on rocks instead of crossing the bridge?"

Arnav looked at the river, it wasn't too deep, but the current was fast and some of the rocks were sharp. He turned ready to give a firm "no" but one look at his daughters pleading face melted him instantly, just like her mother once again.

"Okay jaan, but only of you hold my hand" Arnav compromised, keeping her happiness and her safety both in mind. He held out his hand for Anjali to take but to his surprise, she just turned away from him shouting,

"No! I won't hold you hand Papa!" Anjali stubbornly crossed her arms across her chest, like her mother again. Arnav stood there shocked,

"What the...Anji! What is this nonsense?! I'm only telling you to my hand for your safety! Because I love you!" Arnav muttered, slightly miffed and surprised at her behavior.

"Lies! If you cared about my safety and loved me then you would have asked if YOU could hold MY hand. Like Mumma always did!" Anjali shouted back, unpleased by her father.

"Like Khushi always said...?? What the...?" Arnav exclaimed, still confused at the reason behind his daughter's anger and stubbornness, even this matched her mother's, not his. The sudden mention of Khushi struck him for a second before looking back at his daughter, "What difference does it make?!"

"Ugh! Papa, of course it does! Whenever we cross the road, Mumma always told me to let her hold my hand and when I asked why she had said:

~Why? Because if I told you to hold my hand and something happens then chances are you'll let go of my hand and I don't want that to happen. But if I hold your hand then no matter what happens I will never let go of you...Anji, in any relationship, physical or emotional, everything lies in its bond, not bind. So hold the hand of whom you love rather than expect them to hold yours. Don't ever forget this.~

So see Papa, there's a big difference." Anjali looked at her father's amazed expression. Arnav bent down and lifted Anjali into his arms.

"Your truly are your mother's daughter? Aren't you?" He said tenderly as he placed a kiss on her forehead. He placed her back on the ground, holding onto her hand, "Come on, let's go."

Father and daughter crossed the river, together. As soon as the reached the other side, Arnav scooped up his little girl and held her close to him.

Anjali didn't react, her father always did this, every time they got to the other side of the river. What she didn't know was why.

"Papa?" Arnav looked down at his daughter, telling her to continue, "Why do you always hug me tightly after we cross the river?"

Arnav looked away, emotions weren't his thing. But then again neither was love, marriage, or children and here he was having it all. Anjali noticed everything about him, didn't she, just like her mother.

Her mother, Khushi, his Khushi.

"Because they same Mumma who told you she would never let go of hand...let go. She let go of your hand and mine...She never listened to me. Always thought I yelled at her because I wanted to, because I enjoyed it. I just didn't want to lose her, she was to precious, too perfect. But just like everything else in my life, God took her away too. But she left you behind for me and every time we come here I remember that and fear of losing you too take over." Anjali wiped away the tears forming in her father's eyes before hugging him back forcefully. Anjali whispered against his shoulder,

"Papa? You know what else Mumma told me? When I asked her, what if she wasn't there to hold my hand, you know what she said? She said,

~Anji, don't ever let anyone tell you that. I will always hold your hand when you need me. Like I said its in the bond, not the bind. If I'm not physically there, I'll always be there for you figuratively, through your emotions...another thing, it's not about true or false, real or fake, right or wrong in any relationship. It all about trust, faith, and love. So as long as you have these I'm always with you. No matter what. Hamesha.~

Hamesha, Papa, hamesha. Mumma promised to never let go and she never did." Anjali kiss her father's cheek, now stained with tears.

Arnav stopped walking, he knelt down and placed the single red rose, as he always did, on top of Khushi's grave. He looked down at his daughter, so innocent yet so mature just like her mother. He leaned in a placed a kissed on forehead, causing her to smile up at him. Arnav smiled back.

He stood up, his gaze never leaving Khushi's grave. He took his daughter's hand into his own. As he turned around he felt her hand brush through his hair before caressing his cheek as her lips met his cheek. And if you listened hard enough even you could hear her beautiful voice mingled in the air say,

"I love you. I never did and never will let go...Hameshaa..."
