Episode 19: Heart Of Darkness
The episode starts with Elena visiting Alaric who is locked in a cellar. Alaric plans on staying there until the hidden stake is found or until his alter ego reveals where he/she hid it. Elena informs Alaric that she and Damon are going to pick Jeremy up from Denver while Stefan watches over Ric. The reason why she is going on this trip is because she wants to figure out her feelings for Damon.
Care is upset about the theme being changed by Rebekah. She's also angry with Rebekah for taking over when she was in charge but gets even angrier when Matt says the 20s are cooler than the 70s. Apparently, it was all Matt and Care's plan to "keep her busy" that way.
Ric and Stefan talk about the road trip [DE]. According to Stefan all that matters is that she has feelings for someone else.
Elena and Damon find Jeremy. After explaining everything to Jeremy, he's unsure if he can contact Rose. And then Kol who had been acting as Jere's friend the entire time, attacks Damon with a baseball bat and Damon retaliates by taking the broken wooden baseball bat and stabbing him.
Damon, Jeremy and Elena arrive at a motel. Jeremy asks for a picture of Rose which Damon doesn't have. So he then asks for something that matters. Damon then tells him Rose spent her last day in paradise and as a human and suddenly, Jeremy connects with her.
Caroline goes out to the woods where Tyler is [reason why Rebekah needed to be kept busy]. The two kiss which leads to other things as usual. ;)
Matt drops Rebekah off at home. Rebekah asks him what he's up to and she doesn't buy it and he tells her it's sad she thinks he has an ulterior motive to be a gentlemen. She buys that and bids him goodbye and watches him drive away with a smile. As soon as she enters the house she finds her mother who tells her she's dying.
Jere conveys all of Rose's messages. From her missing Damon to her rooting for Damon and Elena. Rose then reveals she was not sired by Klaus but by someone named Mary Porter. She tells Jere she'll find some more out.
Klaus joins Stefan and Alaric and Stefan has to tell him about the bloodline issue. Klaus goes over and snaps Alaric's neck because they needed him to be unconscious.
Stefan and Damon chat over the phone and tell each other what happened. Stefan becomes extremely uncomfortable upon hearing Elena and Damon would have to stay in a motel for another couple of days till Rose finds something out.
Jere asks Elena what's up with her and Damon and how even Rose had said something about them [rooting thing]. When he's about to tell her what, Damon enters so they shut up.
The mother reveals how Rebekah has been looking over her for a thousand years. She's seen it all and she says sorry and then dies at Rebekah's feet.
Tyler is unsure but he's sure that he can get through a whole lot if he change 100 times. Then Caroline reveals that if Klaus, so does he. But Damon doesn't care.
Elena wakes up to Damon pouring himself a drink in the middle of the night. The two share an eye contact moment before lays down beside her. She asks him why he never told her about what he did for Rose. "why dont you let people see the good in you?"-Elena.
"Because when people see good, they expect good."-Damon. Slowly, the 2 hold hands but she gets out of bed,clearly confused. He follows her out.
"Don't."-Elena. "Why not? ...Elena."-Damon. And she runs back to him and the two share a passionate kiss. Jeremy finds them kissing and interrupts [very awkwardly and cutely too XD ] telling them Rose found Mary in Kansas. Jere gives Elena a look before going back in with Damon. She rolls her eyes.
Alaric wakes up after a while. Stefan informs him he was dead for half a night but at least Stefan was able to read Moby Dick [*rolls eyes*]. Alaric tells him to try to kill him without the ring because the alter ego has a sense for self preservation so it will probably resurface this way. Stefan finally punches him.
Elena, Jere and Damon arrive at the address and Elena tells Jere to wait out to which he replies sarcastically asking if they wanted to make out some more. Damon tells him not to be a dick and listen to his sister. As they enter the house, Damon describes it as a vampire portal. They later find Mary staked and hung to the wall almost like a devil. [NIGHTMARES. Scared the crap out of me. XD ]. Turns out, it's Kol who killed her.
Alaric tells Stefan to give into the blood but Stefan is reluctant. Eventually Stef gives in and Alaric's alter ego surfaces. His alter ego tells Stef he's weak.
Kol won't reveal who turned Mary and then he starts attacking Damon. After hitting him a couple of times, he tells him he's even.
Stefan gets violent when the alter ego won't reveal where the stake is. But when he's almost about to kill him, he tells him it's in the cave. The one where no vampire can get it. Stefan then realizes Rebekah and Klaus were in the house the entire time so they know too now.
"this trip and you're kissing me. What the hell is this?"-Damon. Elena isn't sure if she has feelings for him or not. She's upset he sabotages everything and he questions what if he didn't. He wants her to figure it out herself this time and walks away.
Rebekah takes Alaric to get the stake.
Stefan wants to know what Klaus wants now. He tells Klaus that he cant control him so he either stakes him or gets the hell out of his house.
Elena and Damon are awkward as ever in the car. Rose appears and explains to Jere how Damon challenges Elena. questions her and Elena makes Damon a better person. "Damon is either the best for her or the worst."-Rose.
Alaric grabs it but stays put in the cave. Turns out though when Rebekah steps inside the cave, it's Esther. Esther is in Rebekah's body and wants all the originals dead.
