.....okay so i was able to catch a couple of minutes of the re-runs from last week's episodes, and the part i got to watch was when adi and tara decide to get pizza.......

so just to set the record straight, the word "pizza" is not pronounced "pit-zah" the correct pronunciation of the word is "peat-zah"

it really bothers me when adi pronounces it the wrong way, because it sounds really stupid and retarded. on teh one hand, they make themselves seem all cool and westernized and stuff, with their fast food joints and their clothes and whatnot, and on the other hand, they can even say the words right. what are the directors smoking?

yeah i hear what you're saying too......but my point is that the actors in teh show are portrayed as "westernized". so it follows that they're language should be commensurate with the way they've been shown, esp if they're so well to do and all that. they're not tryign to be italian, that they'd pronounce it the italian way, right? (and btw, i think the italian pronunciation is somewhere close to the american one).

I see your point....they show actors such way that we have to assume that they are 99% into western culture....but at end of the day...they are not....they carry indian values....and i think most indians have mixed accent...british, their own, and little from movies....and that makes it different...so its not wrong....if we see around us...Maybe our family or friends or someone we know, have same accent....so i dont see anything wrong init....and pizza is italian food and they say Pizza very differently..

i agree with hetal here .............how much ever we want to be westernized but at the end of the day we r indians and all carry different accents.
maybe the way we pronounce pizza here is prononuced differently in different countries according to their accent. if for instance we take name of any of the indian cuisine .....we will pronounce it correctly but maybe the people frm other countries may pronounce it according to their accent ..........btw it is a good discussion point ...........i think this cud be our next discussion of the week.

that's a good topic....

i also think....accent has to do with what language you speak, i mean what's your first-born language....for example...I'm gujarati.....so i'm tend to mix it up...and could say Pi-zzzaaa...you know what i mean...I have heard that alot...plus people who speak french, says it diffrently....
