According to an ANI report, many celebs may be against America's growing gun culture, but actor Bruce Willis feels that without weapons, people would be unable to defend themselves against 'bad guys'. The Die Hard star added that guns were just a form of defending home and hearth, and that if not guns then people, including pacifists, would find other weapons like rocks and chairs to protect themselves and their families. In India, in the light the Pramod Mahajan episode where the former was shot by his brother, and succumbed to injuries 12 days later, there is no denying that the gun culture is here to stay but has dangerous ramifications. Like actor Dino Morea says, "Even if you have a gun, if somebody wants to get you, they will. I personally am opposed to the gun culture because it will generate a trigger-happy generation. I'd rather just stay out of trouble or avoid dealing with dubious people and if security does become a concern for me, I'll opt for a bodyguard." Even television actor Eijaz Khan is strongly opposed to the gun culture. "Guns should not be easily accessible to layman. Ideally they should be in the hands of trained personall like security guards who understand when they should use a gun. Otherwise it would lead to unnecessary violence, which is what happens in the US. And although I trust myself and am not an irrational person, I would rather hire a body- guard than buy a gun." Interestingly, Parul Gossain, the publicist for actor Ajay Devgan says that while Ajay does not believe in carrying any guns, producers however are always concerned about the stars security given the kind of frenzy that Bollywood stars attract. "When Ajay was shooting in Lucknow for Othello, 3,000 security guards had been hired to protect the stars. In fact they had to shoot some sequences in the interiors of UP and even though it was a four hour drive, the producer flew Devgan and gang via a chopper s a security measure." So Bruce Willis's belief that good guys could get killed if guns were only found in the hands of bad guys finds no takers, atleast not amongst our celebs. Actor Chunky Pandey does not share Bruce Willis's viewpoint. He says, "I think giving a man a gun is an indirect way of encouraging him to kill. I personally do not own a gun because I'd rather hire a bodyguard to protect my family members and I. After all security guards are the ones with a licence to handle unrurely situations. I see more celebrities opting for security guards as opposed to buying guns. It is better to get protected from violence than opt to take the law into your own hands." |
