Prasuti-Dharam Patni (not!)

In the beginning, I really liked Prasuti and thought she had a mother's heart. I didn't think she would be unreasonable but she is shown to be emerging as bad as Daksha (almost) in her recent guise. I appreciate she thinks it is her duty as a wife but my mum said something to me recently, which I thought was very profound. She said the term "dharma patni" is often misunderstood. She said that the role of a dharma patni is to ensure she also keeps to the part of "dharma" and assists her husband on this path, even it is means taking a stand sometimes for what is not right. It does not imply a blind mentality, when you know something is wrong. However, I guess Prasuti doesn't think that Daksha's hatred is wrong and so she feels justified in following his lead? If fact, she has gone further and actually given him such unstinting support that it has made him possibly even more fixed in his arrogant path.

Sorry for the ramblings (it's my first actual post on the forum!):)

Hi welcome to the forum 🤗

Agree she is being blind ...But see in those puranas times..A pati is her parmeshwar...dharm patni means faithful wife...and she is supposed to be his strength and pillar of support and consider what ever he did as her law ... Well she has been Prajapathi's wife for so long she thinks what he says and does is the correct thing..Being Bramha's son he has an almost godly status ..

Hey! Thanks for that 🤗
Yeah, I agree and can even see why she is taking the stance she is- she sees this as her duty but she can't recognise that underneath that, there is a fundamental issue- even she is letting her pride (in her husband, position, whatever you call it) get in the way of differenciating between real duty and arrogant faith. I love the contrast they show with Shivji, who is divine and therefore beyond those failings:) 😊

I guess somewhere down the line, being married to someone like Daksh for sooo long..(to get 2060 kids🤣),i think the situation has become such that she believes every word of his is the gospel truth, and doesnt quite want to think beyond what he does...that somehow she has got herself to sync with him,not to have a mind of her own!
she is Pativrata, not a Dharam Patni...she rather have her husband be illusion-ed about his powers and live in his ego than try to correct him...
agreee...😊

Prasuti never feels Daksh is wrong. While talking to Revaty, she took Daksh's side, saying he felt Chandra will give time to his wives. She did let Revaty suffer but Daksh was not told the truth about her marriage life. So taking Daksh's side in Sati's case was expected but she is overdoing it.

Very true ... that's what Ram had told Sita after their marriage... that she is not his dasi ... but she is his sahcharani ... i.e. she walks the path of life with him ... so as his companion, it is her duty to not only support him when he doing the right thing, but also to dissuade him if he goes astray. So yes - 100% agree with you on dharampatni definition ... A wife has to be like Mandodari... who kept on warning Ravan and kept on telling him to do the right thing regarding Sita. Which is why Mandodari's name is taken with respect as one of the five ladies in mythology to be revered... she was a pativrata naree ... and yet she never feared to disapprove and chastise Ravan on his infamous abduction of Sita.
