My choice is without question Karunya. As far as the voice alone is concerned, I like his cousin Hema's more.

Here are the qualities that make NCK the winner in the history of all such shows:

1) Total command of words and intonations.
2) Incredible memory for lyrics.
3) Total comfort with fast changing scales and lyrics.
4) Great breath control, even after dancing and jumping during the song.
5) Ability to emote and act during the song without compromising singing.
6) Ability to maintain sur througout the song (probably the most important).
7) Great imagination to add individual touches to songs; so as to not imitate the original version. (Hema is even better at this)
7) Knowledge of the fundamentals of music, sur, taal etc.
8) Voice quality. Incredibly smooth, without jitter. A little high pitched for my taste. But, can change voice to suit song (eg. yamma, yamma song).

All of this at the young age of 19, with experience to gain, is just an awe-insipiring combination. Good luck NCK!

PS. If any of the above goes over your head; seek the nearest parent/elder for explaination. 😉😉

best performer ever......nihira joshi. Sur is the most important thing in music and she is one person who didnt lose sur at any stage. And hwo often do u find some1 who can sing in the 3.5 octave!
OK, nihira doesnt dance around lik others and perform as much.....but nor does lataji or kavita krishnamurthy (im nto comparing nihu to these gr8es.....just saying tht it's not necessary to dance around when u have such a gifted voice)

Hemachandra ... he sings with lot of passion & draws you in .. he has an ability to improvise which I have not seen in any of the other singers ... they ( including Karunya) try to stick to the original song but the listeners would always like to hear to people who try to be innovative & different from the set pattern ... that is were quality stuff is separated from the ordinary stuff & that to at such an young age is really laudable ...

If Karunya & Hemachandra come together ... I think Indian Music will definetly be taken to a different level ...

That is why I said "Performer", not "Singer". A performer in this case includes awesome singing along with the requisite amount of emoting/acting. That is why Asha Bhosle is such a draw, even at her age. Nihira had many songs in which she just sounded flat. She didn't go out of sur, though; but I have not seen her provide her own distinct touches to songs.
