It's got a blend of hip hop and jazz, and is a pop album by popular ghazal singer and Roop Kumar Rathod's wife Sonali Rathod. On Tuesday night, in a Mumbai suburan caf, table maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain will release Sonali's new pop album This Is Me.
The music is by popular singer-music director Leslie Lewis, and the video has been directed by Karan Deohans. While one may well do a double take on the fact that Sonali the ghazal singer is doing a jazz-hip hop album which is definitely a detour from her staple genre of ghazals, the singer herself finds it very natural to sing jazz-hip hop.
How's that? Coz she's always loved listening to Jazz and Hip Hop, and found it very natural to sing the compositions tuned by Leslie Lewis. So even though she is rediscovering herself, isn't it huge turnaround to go ahead and call the album: This Is Me? Anyways, while music lovers have always liked her ghazals, here's hoping they love Sonali's new Jazz-Hip Hop avatar!
