TV Review: Kuch Toh Log Kahenge

Posted by Kasturi on October 30, 2011 in Exclusive, Scoops, Sony TV | 0 Comment

People who have grown up watching the immensely popular Pakistani series, 'Dhoop Kinare', would have been happier to see its Indian version, 'Kuch Toh Log Kahenge' taking off on Sony a few weeks ago.

It revolves around a male doctor in his late 40s slowly falling in love with a 20-something intern in a typical Mills & Boon setting. Dr Ashutosh, handsome but a little arrogant and reserved, has a sad past and personal demons to deal with. The girl, Dr Nidhi Verma is full of sunshine but weighed down by her father's expectations. He wants her to be a doctor to fulfill a promise he had made to his dead wife. Ashutosh and Nidhi meet in a hospital. She is not punctual, plays around with children in their ward instead of administering injections on time and often lands into trouble.

Naturally then, Ashutosh, a stickler for professionalism, doesn't think much of her and asks her to make up her mind on whether to continue in the profession or leave. At the time of writing, Dr Nidhi is tossing in her bed mulling over her decision.

Considering the success of its original, Kuch Toh Log Kahenge has everything going for it. A tried-and-tested story and two dependable actors. Mohnish Bahl and Kritika Kamra get into their roles beautifully. Mohnish fits the part of a stern doctor. Kritika tries hard to be the mischievous child-woman but is endearing. They make a gorgeous pair.

Fortunately, we are spared of any negative elements and so far there is just one senior female doctor, Dr Mallika (Rukhsar) who silently loves Ashutosh. There is a sub-plot too about Ashutosh's late adoptive father (Alok Nath) who has left behind a house but not to him. Ashutosh wants to reclaim the house that is full of his childhood memories.

. It's early days yet and if we ignore the other characters and wait patiently for Ashutosh-Nidhi's romance to unfold, we are sure, we would be rewarded with some appealing drama. After all, that's what made 'Dhoop Kinare' achieve a cult status and become so popular even across the border.

Verdict: **1/2

This one is for the eternal romantic.
