Remixing songs has become the call of the day. Most popular songs on the charts these days are remixed by DJs, who give them a new spin.
One such, Sini ne Sini ne, recently appeared in the soundtrack of Jawani Diwani, remixed by DJ Tushqa. However, the DJ got no credit for it in the album, or in the promos of the film. Cheated!
"I have not only been cheated, but also duped by the producers," says Tushqa. He recalls that two months ago, his friends Suhas and Siddharth came to him with the offer of remixing the song.
"They approached me asking me to do the remix. I was definitely keen, since it was going to be featured in the film. After I completed the remix and gave the song to the producers, I was waiting for them to give me some kind of credit.
When the promos and the video for the song came out, I realised my name was missing from both. In fact, I charged a minimal amount of Rs 20,000 from the producer, since he was going to give me a platform to showcase the song." Blame game
The producer passed the buck to the music label. "Producer N R Paschisia said the label was responsible for the omission of my name. The biggest shock came when the album came out, but my name was missing from the credits - they had credited Suhas and Siddharth for the song." No paperwork
Tushqa says that his biggest mistake was not getting any paperwork done. "I shouldn't have taken them at face value. Had I signed some papers and got my name and the track documented, I could have taken legal action.
My experience has not only made me a wiser man, but also is a learning lesson for all those making a debut in the industry. The message is loud and clear — Bollywood might be a good platform for upcoming talent, but it is also a place where new talent is exploited."
Tushqa plans to release his solo album, titled SOB (Spirit of Bhangra), by February end. |
