Def Rajneeti and New York worked because of Katrina. But they weren't hits only because of her. At the end of the day, it's the script/film that matters. Most people liked both Rajneeti and New york....(including me) and that's why it was a hit. And TMK couldn't be a huge hit like Rajneeti or New york...because TMK was a bad film. My point is...at the end of the day...only Kat being in the film doesn't make a film a huge hit. It's not like she didn't give other flops. If just her presence is what makes film a hit...her films with salman (which is an unpopular jodi) will be hits too eg Yuvraaj...not to mention the film was boring also...hence the reason it didn't work.

Katrina is really smart at choosing films...she knows what works at the boxoffice and what doesn't. She refuses to work with Salman because she knows she can't give a hit with him (she says this in an interview)...smart girl! Reason most of her films are with Akki...is because she knows their jodi is popular...which will give her a hit.

edit to add: Don't quote me and say am not giving Katrina credit. I know she is the most popular actress in bollywood, and she pulls audience to the theater...but what am saying...is she alone can't make a film a hit!

👏 I couldn't have said it better myself. What a lot of Bollywood producers fail to realize is that in order for a film to be a hit, it has to be good in terms of script and acting. In the last few years, slapstick comedies (for ex. Akshay starrers) were ridiculously bad yet they were hits because of star-power. There's a new segment of the population that demanded movies like Rajneeti (this movie was closely related to Sonia Gandhi and some Indians love goras) and New York. I wouldn't say Kat made those movies hits. Word of mouth of the movies being good made it hits. Or else TMK would have done extremely well and initially it did.

Kat has a huge fan base following...that's hard to ignore. But films like Rajneeti when it deals with politics of India..a lot of indians are obviously gonna be interested in it like Pandora above mentioned. That's the same reason why NOKJ staring Rani and Vidya was also a hit. A lot of people were interested in the case. We are seeing a lot of examples recently that only huge stars don't make a film work...BBB is one example...where it worked because of the performances and the script in general. Didn't BBB do better than TMK?
