Kat knows the mentaly of majority of Indians. Instead of choosing roles where she's front and centre, she'll take part in male-centric movies where she's just an object (what men want in their women). She chooses movies she knows will be hits, despite her role in it. This doesn't mean the movies are hits just because she's in it. Correalation does not mean causation.

you do make a valid point there, however, i think most of the times, it is the other way around. New york and rajneeti were not really the commercial potboilders and starred quite a few low profile (box office wise) names...but each of them managed a successful run at the box office...and i would have to give the credit to katrina because the entire marketing of the film centered around her...even rajneeti showed way more of ranbir katrina in the promos when there were 6 other prolific actors in the film....

whichever way, shes being quite clever and focusing on her strengths (being glamour, star power etc) to sustain in the industry...
