Glee! Unappreciated? Just another HSM. That is news to me. I'm assuming it's not doing as hot in India then. Over here in the USA, Glee is a wildly popular phenomenon. Great critical acclaim and Gleeks can be found everywhere. Albums sell like hot cakes on i-tunes, and they have a record for number one singles. Forget Rachel Berry, all the characters have their fan following – biggest being Sue Sylvester and Kurt Hummer. They also do a live performance tour off season, which is popular. They are constantly pushing boundaries, trying new things and of course in controversy due to their content.
But no way is Glee unappreciated or compared much to HSM.
I find it interesting that Glee is not such a phenomenon in India. I mean we allegedly should be suckers for musicals.
sadly the CW culture is nt quite hot as it is abroad..and mos pl wud b like glee.yucks dats sooo gay..i personally adore dat show..d songs r sensational...i mean d dey have totally re vamped d numbers in der own style is absolutely stupendo..bt i dunno man ppl deem glee as any oder gay HSM portrayal..wich is just sad..bcz d show is great..i mean apart from a certain portions dat i dislike or rather ridicule..im a GLEEK!..😳Originally posted by: return_to_hades

Yes, Glee appears to be gay to many people. Kurt Hummel is probably the most prominent gay character in television since Will from Will & Grace. Jane Lynch who plays Sue Sylvester is also a well known lesbian and an icon amidst the LGBT community. When Glee began, show choir was considered to be a very gay thing. Almost everyone in the LGBT community loves Glee. However, at least in USA stereotypes are breaking.
It is not just about being gay, it is about self expression and the motions of growing up – shown through the lenses of a show choir. Many male viewers enjoy Glee because it is a show that breaks gender stereotypes. It shows how men too face pressure over body image and popularity or how men too face betrayal, confusion, frustration and other emotional aspects of relationships. One of my coworkers husband works with a construction crew and all of them are manly men as you can get. But all of them regularly follow Glee.
The variety of characters appeal to various minorities too; the Asians, the Jewish, the African American, the Handicapped, the developmentally challenged – basically anyone and everyone who does not fit the classic WASP majority. Indian school culture is very different and I can see how several Indians will find it difficult to go past the flamboyance and identify with the various characters.
People interested in music of all kinds of genres find common ground in Glee which is bringing old classics from cinema, to rock to, hip hop etc to the forefront.
Most importantly – GQ cover girls, titillating photo shoot. So far far from being gay.

i was one the people who thought of Glee as a 'Gay show'. lol. but that was before i actually watched it. in the beginning i was like, yeah, okay. what's the big deal about the show? but then later on in Season 1, it just began growing on me. in no way can it be compared to HSM. HSM is... well, pathetic. Glee is wayy much better than that.
