A sad fact of the Hindi music industry is that it is very reliant on Bollywood. So this thread is for us music lovers to share Hindi songs that we love and that are NOT from films. This is so that more people know and learn about non-film Hindi music and so that good quality songs and artists get appreciated even if they aren't in films.
In recent times, for example, we've seen the Sufi genre grow immensely in the music scene, with artists like Kailash Kher, Rabbi Shergill and Rekha Bhardwaj producing great music outside of films.
I'd be prticularly interested to learn of any Indian bands that do rock'ish music, about which I know next to nothing.
Then there are those genres which have been traditionally quite successful (relatively) in the non-film music business, like bhangra, ghazals, bhajans, 'fusion' - please point out any that you have really liked.
My first couple of contributions to this list reflect my mood right now: 'Tere Ishq Mein' and 'Hey Ram'.
1. 'Tere Ishq Mein' by Rkha Bhardwaj. Composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and written by Gulzar.
