I had my reservations about Ashi / Shabhir's pairing and the current state of ITV but this show has pleasantly surprised me. I binge-watched all the episodes over the weekend and boy does this show remind me of the shows we had a decade ago. They were flawed, they had drama, melodrama, villains, misunderstandings and what not, BUT they were so watchable because despite all this, they had a soul, they had a story and they had characters you wanted to root for.
Does this have flawless writing? NO. But the characters and their actions actually make sense. They have SUBSTANCE, and they are FLAWED. None of them are extreme or completely illogical. I empathize with the trauma Yug went through, and the way he wants to protect his brothers. I empathize with Kairi's loneliness, and her love for her siblings which made her marry Yug. I empathize with the brothers who grew up with such strict rules, and are now angry that their brother married another. I empathize with the mum who lost a young Kairi, and Lata but pours her love on Yug. I empathize with Imarti and Biscuit who know how amazing Kairi is and how she deserves the best man in the world. The dad is a criminal, and he is living up to that. I love that they are focusing on the leads and their families becoming one, slowly, rather than just inserting random romance, or twists to derail the story. There is an emotional connect that the characters are slowly developing with each other, be it Mairi / Kairi, Yug / Kairi, Gabru / Kairi, or the brothers with their Miss Mango. Even Yug's backstory is not just some random moments pieced together but actually seems to have substance.
I love the angst the leads have. But I also love that this is very family-centric. All the siblings be it Kairi or Yug's side love each other. And I am looking forward to more moments of love, laughter and bonding between them. Of course, let's not forget that we need Sundari and Gabru to bond too HEHE!
The songs are great, be it the song played for Mairi / Kairi, the siblings or the show's theme played on Yug / Kairi. Melodious and fun.
The acting is great. Ashi is truly living the character, and she owns every frame with her expressions. Her styling is freaking amazing too, and she looks beautiful in every outfit. All the other actors are doing well too. My only complaint lies with Shabhir. I find his expressions a little too controlled sometimes. I am not sure if that's the way he has been directed to play Yug or if it's his own acting that isn't up to the mark.
All in all, I am thoroughly enjoying this show and looking forward to this journey and how our leads, their siblings and most importantly their pets make this love not so mushkil. Please CVs, it's not that mushkill afterall. Hope they won't ruin this in the long run and give us lots of this family, without too much negativity like other ITV shows.
