Thanks for the update, Vrish. The update does sound a bit strange...and this Ashwabahu sounds bipolar.

Is this a true story of fiction?

Thanks for the updates Vrish...missed all the MSDK episodes following the Tara-chandra episode... Btw the story of Visakha sounded really interesting... I tried to watch it... but whenever I try to watch a video, the video gets stuck & a message comes like the anti2dvag stopped working & the screen goes wild & crazy...😡 I can't watch anything on youtube now😭😡

The episode of Aswabahu was strange... agree with you. Didn't sound like a story of friendship coz the friendship sounded one-sided only from Kapila's side while Aswabahu was just using him for his selfish motives... Chandrika... didn't understand her character all.

So now the trend of not getting killed under Shani's punishment cycle has been broken... Looks like now everyone get killed in all the episodes😆

I'm back, and thanks for your comments.  Hope your exams went well, and agree w/ much of what you wrote above.  (LJR, most of the above episodes are a mix of mytho & fiction, since Shani's insertion in a lot of them ain't there in original texts.  Last weeks episode is an example - continue reading)

Last week's episode was about Dyu, Bheeshma's previous incarnation as the 8th Vasu, in which the Vasus were cursed by Rishi Vashistha.  For the original account as in the Mahabharata, see here.

Anyway, to summarize what they showed last week, some rishis were enjoying a dance program hosted by Narada, when suddenly the Vasus stormed the place.  They were furious that the front row seats hadn't been reserved for them.  Narada tried to explain the hierarchy, in which the various rishis got seated first, the Devas next and the Vasus last.  This infuriated the Vasus and they threw the rishis out.

The Vasus narrated what they did to their mother, and she supported them.  However, their father Dharamraj disapproved of their activities.  In the meantime, the Vasus started tormenting rishis for their own sadistic pleasure.  Disgusted, Dharamraj approached Shani and asked him to punish them fully, and not spare them on account of them being his sons 👏

The Vasus are engaged in persecuting rishis when Shani intervenes & saves the latter, and strikes them down.  They demand to know what he's doing, and he warns them.  The Vasus mock his warning, as usual.  Later, the Vasus go into an arena where some apsaras are dancing, and the apsaras are disgusted by their advances & leave.  Shani decides that the time has come to punish them, and he goes there, and gives them an idea.

Shani points to earth to sage Vashistha's ashram, where he has his divine cow (I'm forgetting whether it was Kamadhenu or Nandini, but anyway, read on) and suggests that they demonstrate their power by stealing that cow, which would give them everything they desire. 😈  The Vasus visit Rishi Vashistha on earth and tell him that they are hungry, but that he probably is done for the day.  Vashistha declines and asks them to wait, and goes to his cow and asks her to delay her eating and give the Vasus what they need.  A number of food items appear, and Vashistha's desicples feed them.  The Vasus are satisfied that Shani was not lying and that cow indeed had the powers he described.

That night, when the Vasus were in the process of stealing the cow, Shani appeared b4 Vashistha and warned him that his hosts were sinning against him.  Vashistha is shocked and asks how, and Shani advises him to go out & check.  Sure enough, the Vasus were leading her away.  Vashistha got furious and accused them of violating their status as guests, and disgracing their families in the process, and cursed that they'd be born repeatedly on earth, while eldest, who should have stopped them, participated in it, and would have to serve out the full punishment.  The Vasus begged for forgiveness and Vashistha said that it would only be broken if they found a mother willing to kill them the moment they were born.

The Vasus then went to Ganga and asked her to do them that favor.  So in Hastinapur, she married Shantanu and gave birth to all of them, and drowned the first 7.  The 8th, as is well known, was Gangeya/Devratha/Bheeshma, and the serial cues through the Mahabharata to the point where Bheeshma was downed on the bed of arrows.

After Bheeshma died, the 8th Vasu returned to join his brothers, and presented himself b4 Shani.  Shani told them that they had all served out their punishment, and from now on, would fulfill their purpose in life.  He summoned Agni & asked him to take them all as his attendants, and that they were to be involved in all the yagnas that he performed.

Comments: Since this incident is right out of the Mahabharata, aside from the parts about Shani and the reason about why the Vasus went to steal the cow, I suggest discussing it in this thread on the Dwapar Yuga in the DBSK forum.  I will be posting tonight's episode update hours later.

Which - the one about Bheeshma?  The part about the Vasus being cursed by Vashistha for stealing Nandini is (the text has Nandini, but I still don't recall what the episode mentioned).  However - the part that preceded it - the Vasus being unhinged and Shani inciting them to steal Nandini - is more likely than not made up.

Oh, this one I have no idea.  Anyway. they showed a different story from the article above, so maybe that episode is for next week.

Today's episode was about rajgurus who have material aspirations, and in the process, undermine the fruits of their labor.  The rajguru in this story was one Ashwabhatt.

A certain King was worshipping Kubera, and pleased, Kubera appeared before him.  The king asked him for a golden palace on the banks of the Narmada.  Kubera went and created one for him, and then gave it to him.  The king was excited that his wife, queen Charulata, would be very happy w/ this.

Queen Charulata was observing karva chauth and waiting for her husband to return.  Ashwabhatt suggested to her that she could take it in his absence, but she told him that her pativrata dharam didn't allow her to do that.  However, the king arrived and broke her fast, and gave her the news about his palace.  The queen was very happy, and the king asked Ashwabhatt to perform the rituals of the grihapravesh of that palace.

Ashwabhatt did all that, and as a part of it, gave the queen a pot w/ a coconut in it, and asked her to install it near the shrine.  The queen went ahead and did it.  The king offered Ashwabhatt his gurudakshina, and Ashwabhatt, seeing his opportunity, and after confirming that it was a pledge, asked for the golden palace and everything that belonged to it.  The king was shocked, but agreed.  Queen Charulata was shocked as well.  However, he asked Charulata to leave w/ him.  As they were about to leave, Ashwabhatt pointed out that Chatulata was a part of what belonged to the palace, and so she too was now his.  The king was furious and wanted to slay him, but Charulata told him that as a pativrata wife, she couldn't allow his vow to be broken, and asked him to wait for her until she punishes the rajguru.

Shani is watching all this and says that Ashwabhatt is guilty of 3 things - greed, coveting a pativrata stri, and biting the very hand that fed him.  He said that his dand-chakra will go into action very soon.  In his original palace, the king is now praying to Shani and asking him what was his exact fault, and points out that if Ashwabhatt gets away w/ it, nobody would trust or respect rajgurus.  He tells Shani that Shani is responsible for the dignity of his queen.

Shani says that since Ashwabhatt misused his knowledge & intelligence, he would be deprived of both.  Suddenly, in front of Ashwabhatt, 2 white-clad people - one man & one woman appear.  The woman introduces herself as buddhi, and the man as gyan.  They tell him that since he misused them, they are leaving him.  They then disappear.

In the meantime, Ashwabhatt tries to approach the queen, but she pulls a blade of dhraba grass and puts it on the floor, and warns him that even Ravan couldn't cross that.  Ashwabhatt tries to anyway, and gets badly electrocuted 😆

Next day, the king is travelling, when he sees a public announcement that queen Charulata would be auctioned as a slave.  He gets furious and grabs his sword, and his hands bleed.  He then goes to his palace and resolves to kill Ashwabhatt, but Shani arrives there and tells him that he's going to set a horrible example if he does that, and assures him that Shani is protecting the queen.

The auction is on, and the queen is thrown to the floor by Ashwabhatt, and different bidders start the bidding.  When it looks like there is a buyer, Shani comes and offers Ashwabhatt a plant that will give him all the gems he desires.  Ashwabhatt demands evidence, and Shani shows him gems falling from the plant.  Ashwabhatt is satisfied and sells the queen to Shani, and takes the plant, dismissing the other bidders.  Shani then tells the queen that she's back to her old status as the king's wife, and is free to punish Ashwabhatt as she sees fit.  She goes and slaps him hard, but Ashwabhatt is more interested in his newly found toy.

Later, Ashwabhatt is trying to get some more gems from his plant, but this time, only stones start falling.  He gets furious, and Shani appears and tells him that he's been treated in a way identical to how he treated others.  Then the palace starts changing from golden to normal stone, and Ashwabahu is shocked.

A number of rishis then arrive @ the spot, and tell Ashwabahu that they are all rajgurus, and that he's insulted their profession w/ his deeds, and so they are expelling him from their order.  They then beat him thoroughly, and leave him laying on the ground.  Shani tells him that he still has an opportunity to repent, but Ashwabhatt decides that he'll go and this time demand the entire kingdom from the king.

Shani decides that enough is enough and summons an (his? the color was white, whereas his is a black raven) eagle and tells him to complete Ashwabhatt's punishment.  Ashwabhatt is limping down the city towards the king's palace, but the eagle attacks him & kills him 👏

Later, the king & queen are @ Shani's shrine, and thank him for doing justice.

Comments:  Good episode.  Only thing I found really strange - the personification of buddhi & gyan.  And since they left Ashwabhatt, he started making all stupid moves from that point on.

Only regret - maybe it was implied - but I wish the king got back the golden palace he had originally asked for, since it turning to stone was just to rebuff Ashwabhatt.  However, queen Charulata - if she's a pativrata, how does she stay w/ another man to make her husband's vow true?  That one didn't make much sense.  But glad she was secure.

I have the same question in mind, why despite being a pativrata she agreed to stay with that rajguru. That rajguru was seriously disgusting🤢 The way he was ogling at those two maids who addressed him & then ogling at the queen was simply yuck!👎🏼 I wonder how he became the rajguru of that palace.

Btw talking about the living things, even the King was in the palace how come rajguru didn't claim him to be his slave?😲 Shani's punishment was really cool of turning the golden palace into that stone when rajguru threw those rocks at the wall👍🏼 Another death under Shani's punishment cycle, but one thing that I didn't understand was that yes, Shani gave him a last chance to reform himself but how could he reform as Shani had already taken his wisdom & knowledge from him. That portion was a bit strange! I was wondering if the rajguru had his wisdom & knowledge with him then would he had reformed?🤔 or was his soul fully captivated with evil thoughts😵

Anyway it was a good episode with good performances, especially Daya Shankar as always👍🏼 Btw the episode really reminded me of ASR. Not only the blade of dhraba grass portion but the way that rajguru was making his hair go back all the time, even Meghnath did that all the time in ASR, didn't he😉Even the golden palace reminded me of Lanka 😆 So if Charulata mentioned that Sita & Ravan's portion then is this story based in the Dwapar yug or is it just pure fiction?😕

Looks like tomorrow will be the episode that features Yash as Kalketu.  Too bad this is a story of betrayal, but as Ravan & Mandodari proved, an apsara can marry a rakshasha and prosper.  Too bad it won't work for Minakshi.
