He opens the door and gestures to Geet to enter..... ..pg 4

Geet went numb with fear on feeling herself being yanked...she looked up in panic and was struck dumb on seeing Maan ,who continued pulling her to the side of the road all the while warily watching around him.Geet barely got out  a "Maa..Maan Sir ..Aaap? when she was bundled into a car next to her.

Maan got in the other side and just peeled off into the night.Geet held on tight to her seat to keep her balance as Maan just drove with almost manic speed...She finally got up her courage to say..."Sir...aap yeh kya kar rahe hain..gaddi thode dheere se chalao..hum jaa kaha rahein hain?"..Maan showed no response but just ratcheted up the speed..."Sir...Sir...aap sun rahe hain...Maan!"

Just then Maan pulled the car onto a small dirt road into the woods adjoining the road and put the car in park.

He turned around and held Geet's shoulders fiercely..."Geet tum paagal ho gayi ho kya...tum mujhe bina bataye yahan kaise aa gayi...tumme akkal naam ki koi cheez hai ya nahin..batao Geet..tum yahan kyun aayee?bolo?"  ..shakes her shoulders..."Geeeeet!....tumhe sunaye de raha hain na?"

Geet still shell shocked...just opens her mouth incoherently..."haan..haan ..main..woh..."

Geet...tum ye kya main woh badbada rahi ho...tum yahan kyun ayee...tumhe pata hain na ke isi jagah tumhare hi ghar wale tumhe marna chahte hain aur ab tum phir se yahin wapas aa gayi" ....Maan pushes Geet away into her seat..frustration and concern both clearly visible on his face...he runs his fingers through his hair and visibly tries to calm down..."Geet...maine tumse kuch pucha hain..tum yahan kyun aayee..aur wo bhi mujhe bataye bina...Kyun?"

...." Woh Rasika maam..unhone..."

"Rasika...kya Rasika...maine tumhe kahan tha na..usse aur uski baaton ko ignore karo..main sab sambhal lunga...kahan tha na.."

Geet getting worked up too by now...

Isiliye..isi liye maine aapko nahin bataya...Rasika maam ne dhamki di thi..ki agar aap yahan nahi aaye to woh aap ke liye badi mushkil khadi kar degi..aapko jail main dalwayegi(with one hand on her mouth and other by now worrying her dupatta while remembering Rasika's words to her)..

 

Maan..with a scoffing laugh...Jail...mujhko aur Rasika..hunh...and laughs shortly again..

Geet getting worked up again...Sir ..aapko hasi aa rahi hain...woh mazak nahin kar rahi thi...(looks up in anger and exasperation)Haye Babaji..yeh meri baat kyun nahin samjhte..(turning to Maan again)..Sir..main aisa nahin hone doongi...isi liye main yahan aayee hun....main Rasika maam se maafi mangke ..kaise bhi karke mana lungi..zyaada se zyaada kya karegi..aur bhala bura sunaygee aur kya....

Tum aisa kuch nahin karogi Geet..tum Maafi nahin mangogi..

Par Sir par woh complaint...

Maan hold up his hand...just looks at her..Geet closes her mouth and subsides back in her seat...

Maan is thinking something..a host of expressions cross his face..and then clears up...He turns to Geet..

Theek hain..ab hum yahan aa gaye hain to main hi Miss Rasika Rathod se khud nipat lunga....(Maan 's mouth curves up on one side and then stretches into a smile..as he looked out striaght in front of him....Geet sees this and shudders in relief that this smile was not aimed at her and thinks to herself...pata nahin yeh Sir ne kya socha hain...par ab mujhe lag raha hain ki shayad sab kuch theek hoga....

She comes out of her reverie as Maan starts the car up again and tuns towards her...

Ab humein raat rehne ke liye kuch dhundna chahiye.....

Yahan nazdik main ek guest house hain..main pichle baar wahan ruka tha....haan wahin chalte hain...saying this Maan swings the car back onto the asphalt road...

Riding along ...both Geet and Maan are lost  in the past which his words had evoked...Geet thinks back to a guest house..that dark night..and her face slowly shows the distressed direction of her thoughts as she starts remembering ...

Maan  is driving along and reaches the entrance of the Guest House when suddenly a stray thought strikes him......

Geet ...tumhe yaad hain..main tumhe yahan bhi mila tha?.....

Maan pulls into the parking lot in front of the Guest house and parks the car.

Geet looks at the building in front of her and remembers how she had come to this very place with Dev...How she had followed him to the room....the room which had seen the end of her innocence...the innocence which had been used and discarded by a man who she had thought was her husband...a husband for whom she had saved and given up her most precious treasure...and who was not her husband at all...just a scheming trickster ..an unprincipled man who not only had duped her and her family for money but had also used her naivete to seduce her knowing that she went along with him because of his smooth lies..and then just casually left her with her broken dreams ,shattered life and the ruin of her innocence.....

Maan unaware of Geet's dark thoughts is about to get out when a new thought strikes him...He turns and looks at Geet...a myriad emotions pass through his expressive eyes...he sees her solemn face and  clears his throat and in a fashion uncharecteristic to him, hesitantly starts...

Geet...Hum yahan aa to gaye hain..par ek baat hain jo main bhul gaya tha...yeh ek chota shaher hain, ..agar main andar jaake do kamron ke liye puchunga toh shayad theek nahin hoga.

Maan's face shows his distress at upsetting her...Geet's face has slowly started crumpling up and her eyes have a moist sheen to them, but Geet is not aware of a word that Maan is telling her...she is lost in her hurtful past  and tearing up

'Jab wo tumhe dekhenge  aur jaanege ke tum mere saath yahan akeli ayi hon toh kaafi sawal uthenge...aur main nahin chahta ki koi bhi tumhe gaur se dekhe...kya pata tumhe pehchan jaaye aur tumhare ghar walon ko khabar ho.'

On seeing a tear roll out of Geet's eye...Maan gets very upset and brings his hand up to wipe it....his face twisted up almost as if he felt the same pain that Geet was undergoing.

Geet comes out of her nightmare with a jerk the moment she feels Maan's fingers on her cheek..she looks at him..

Maan slowly wipes off her tears....tum kyun ro rahi ho Geet....main hun naa..main tumhe kuch nahin hone dunga...mere hote hue tumhe kuch ho hi nahi sakta....(maahi moment..eyelock)

 

Maan's face suddenly takes on a determined look....He takes Geet's hand in his and asks her...

Geet..tumhe mujh par bharosa hain na...

Geet just looks at him and nods her head...Maan still holding her by the hand walks up the steps and enters the office.

Kahiye..main aapki kya madad kar sakta hun..the man behind the counter gets up and asks Maan ..looking at the pair curiously...

Haan ..Humein aaj raat ke liye ek kamra chahiye..milenga?

Ji sahab...zaroor milega...aap yeh register sign kijiye ...aur haan sahab, aapko pehle se payment karna padenga..yeh hamare niyam hain

Theek hain..laiyye, main register sign karta hun..

Waise aap aur bhabhiji yahan kaise...asks the man curiously...it was very boring managing the guesthouse...he hardly had many people inquiring to stay over ...

Maan was about to shout at him but thinks the better of it and says , hum yahan kaam se aaye hain...chabbi?

Maan senses Geet's start when the man refers to her as Bhabhiji...he presses Geet's hand warningly

and holds out his hand......chabi? with more attitude..

Ji Sir..yeh lijiye...as Maan turned to go still towing Geet with him...Sir aapka samaan...main lekar aata hun..

Nahi koi zaroorat nahin...main manage kar lunga..and Maan stalks off with Geet hurring to keep up with his long strides...

Khadoos kahin ka...mutters the man behind Maan's back

Kya kaha tumne....Maan came to an abrupt stop with Geet almost ploughing into him

maine...kuch nahin Sir..the man stuttered ..

Maan arches his eyebrow at him , giving him a speaking look and pulls Geet with him again and stalks off to the room.
