Yes. I agree with your sentiments. All the promising participants -- those who won the Amul cool voice of the day, who include Krishnamurthy and little Srisha from Vijay's losing team -- should be put in a new group for a wild card chance.

Sharing the following video clip that shows Madhu should not be typecast as a singer who is best only for classically-oriented songs or sad songs like "Pichai Pathiram". This one is a nice romantic melody (forget about the language; music transcends beyond linguistic boundaries):
Sorry for waxing eloquent about this one singer. When I first heard "Kannaa kandeinadee" in 2003, I had already realised his potential. But I had never really paid much attention to him until Sangeetha Maha Yutham came along -- largely because of his lack of visibility -- so I didn't realise the depth of his talent and his versatility.
Btw, I must also say that Chinmaye is an excellent host -- very spontaneous and very good at repartee. I do like her singing but I never liked her personality after one interview I saw in which she came across as very arrogant. Nonetheless, she is a natural as a host and looks good too.

Hi all
Can anyone write what happened on 11 Sep -- I haven't watched fully online though I noticed Devan engaging in some antics to floor the judges (literally). I am planning to catch the 12 Sep show online -- the inimitable Usha Uthup appeared as a guest judge and also sang. What's happened to Vijay? He wasn't on the 11 Sep show either.

Singer Swarnalatha dies
Just read the news. She died in hospital of a lung infection for which she had been receiving treatment for about a year. She had not sung for a year. She was 37 and single.
Swarnalatha will be remembered for her many evocative songs. Srilekha recently sang one of her hits -- Poraaleh ponnuthai -- in one epside of Sangeetha Maha Yutham.
May her soul rest in peace.

Hi Bonheur - I didn't watch the whole episode on 9/11 as well in the beginning. It was run over by the movie Nadodigal and my recording of the show got screwed up.

It was a match between SriLekha(TT) Vs Devan(CS). CS won the match ending quarterfinals with Madhu's team 6 points, Devan 4 points followed by Seilekha with 2 points. Anupama's NS got eliminated.

The show stealer was Devan's sad song.

SriLekha sang Ondra renda Asaigal well. But Devan's show up won over her. He sang Yenge pogum Vazhkai and fell on the floor singing at all.

In the Sangamam round Srilekha sang about festivals whereas Devan's was not that great. Finally Devan won with the good show in captain's round.

On September 12th it was Madhu Vs Devan. Usha Utup came as special judge and she will stay till the end of Semifinals.

Madhu's solo song was awsome(He sang Thanni thotti thedi vandha Kannukutti naan...) Don't miss this as his performance as well as singing was supurb. The score was tied till the second round and in the last round because of Madhu's singing - they won over a 4 point lead.

What a voice for Madhu!!!!

I also don't know what happened to Vijay.

Migan, thanks for your synopsis. I have since watched the 12 September show. Madhu Balakrishnan was amazing. I didn't quite like the medley, where he changed his voice and sang a Hariharan and a TMS song. But his "Thanni Thotti" drunken act was superb. Of course, the singing was good too -- I wish Vijay had been present to see how Madhu sang one of his father's Dappanguttu songs 😛 I guess Madhu put on this act as he had noticed how Devan got down to the floor and crawled in the final act of his song on 11 September. He must have been surprised on 12 September when Devan decided to sing a regular song and cut out the clowning. Anyway, it was great fun to watch Usha Uthup join Madhu in a reprise of the "Thanni thotti" song.

Reality shows
I've always cringed when people referred to music competitions such as American Idol and SMY as reality shows since they are just music competitions although done with blunt comments by judges. They are very different from reality shows such as Big Brother where the spotlight is on the daily lives of ordinary contestants.
But, now I have changed my mind. SMY is really a reality show as it showcases the real side of singers like Madhu -- a side that even the likes of co-singers like Chinmayi have never seen on stage 😉
