I'd say it is not religion who makes us crazy. But we the people are crazy, more crazy and then some more. As far as I know Hinduism does not have these hard and fast rules. It is people who have taken up these rules, promoted them in the name of religion and make a mess of it.

I can marry who I have please. I have crossed hundreds of seas. I eat meat when I please. I indulge in cheeseburgers when I crave them. I don't keep silly fasts. I don't believe in temples and visit only when family/others who believe in it. I think places like Tirupathi and those restrictive temples are taking my universal faith and turning it into some hierarchical organized religion. Some say I will go to hell for all this, but I shall willingly embrace such a hell.

It's not religion that makes us crazy..it's our interpretation of it. It's the way we twist things to suit us and our needs. Society creates the barriers between Dalits and Brahmans, the people in society allow certain people to skip lines at religious places of worship, not religion.

When people eat meat, but not beef, it is not because they are saying we are good Hindus so we will not eat beef. In fact, when people eat meat, they know it's not something that is supported in the Hindu religion, so in order to keep some sort of faith alive, they will choose not to eat beef as the cow is seen as quite a sacred animal in Hinduism. (as i'm sure you already know) It's one that benefits society the most through all the things it provides. Hinduism is more about the way you live your life, how you treat others, not about marrying within the same caste. In Hinduism it's not forbidden to marry someone outside your community, society created the system years ago, but yes the caste system originated from India, although after talking to my friends I realised it is not the only south asian country to have the caste system..which I was quite shocked and surprised about tbh.

But regarding the queues at Shirdi and skipping lines..just show them your British passport and you will automatically skip all the queues 😆 plus if you have an elderly person with you then you can easily skip queues too. However, if you wake up and go to the early morning prayers, then there is no chance to skip queues and everyone has to wait their turn...just something i've noticed. :S
