Melodies of Luv - The I Hate Luv Storys Music Review

No wonder this is a film by Karan Johar, who can write reams and reams on love. But this time it's different. Though the banner is old, the director of I Hate Luv Storys is new. Following the footsteps of Karan is the young director Punit Malhotra and the onus to deliver musical hits in this bittersweet love story is on composer duo Vishal-Shekhar.
So the music of the film is bound to be under the scanner not only because of its banner and contemporary love tale but also because of the newfound chemistry between Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor which is already a hit among the youngsters. With a fresh pair and dream-like locales, the film 'I Hate Luv Storys' promises a gamut of melodious songs.
Light on the ears, welcome the song Jab Mila Tu which catches your fancy instantly with its simple music and easy words. And then Vishal Dadlani's spunky vocals do the rest of the job. Ru Tu Ru Tu, the track just settles on your lips.
The next song Bin Tere does make an impressive start, but soon it sounds like Noor-E-Khuda track from the film My Name Is Khan. Amazingly the composers are different. So, in terms of music the song has nothing new to offer. In fact, Bin Tere remix sounds better than the original.
Bus pyar ka nam mat lena and here comes the most frisky and feisty song of the album; the title track I hate luv storys starts with a zing and takes you to the party mood. Vishal's voice will again keep you on your toes, tapping the floor.
Shreya Ghoshal belts out yet another typical romantic ballad Bahara. The song, though with a repetitive tune, manages to uplift your mood, so no qualms. Continuing with the romantic element, Sadka Hua brings out the passion as singers Suraj Jagan and Mahalaxmi Iyer make an impact through their vocals.
If the original Bin Tere fails to impress, Shekhar Ravijiani croons the reprise version of it, accompanied by nothing but a guitar. That's what is called melody! Simplicity makes this song an outstanding ditty, a memorable one from the album.
Nowadays not a single musical score is complete without a song by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. So listen to Rahat in Bahara Chill version. Though Rahat does nothing exceptional for this song, but for sure we don't get bored of him. Isn't it so?
Without a dreary moment, the movie's album is like a romantic sojourn which thankfully is not soppy. Light, breezy and zippy at times, the songs have already got admirers.
