In a conversation with Mishal Raheja

Mishal Raheja made his television debut right after completing his undergraduate studies in business management in the United States. He appeared in Love Story as Aakash (2007 - 2008) and then he did Pyaar Vyaar And All That on MTV (2009) and is currently doing Laagi Tujhse Lagan where his character is Dutta Bhau (Dutta Shriram Patil). We spoke to Mishal about his life and his work.


How did you prepare for the role?

I saw different kind of movies, both Hollywood and Bollywood to get my character right. The walk and the attitude had to be realistic. I saw movies like Casino Royale, Gangster, Sarkar and a few Al Pacino movies. I even spoke to some real cops to know and understand better the mentality of the criminals and all. I did a lot of research work.


Your character is a Maharashtrian. How did you get the accent right?

I was lucky because my mom is a Maharashtrian and speaks very good Marathi. And I've lived in Mumbai so Marathi was not a problem. In fact it is such an amazing coincidence that my mom's father's surname was Patil and that is now my character's surname in the show.

So how similar are you to your character?

Oh, we are very different! I'm a very happy go lucky person and not violent at all. Dutta is kind too, woh toh garibon ka data hai but he has a real gun!

What do you have to say about your co-star?

She is one of a kind. Mahi is very simple and very kind.

What do you like to watch on television?

I don't watch much TV. Sometimes news channels like Headlines Today or something like that. But I just don't get time, I'm on the sets shooting for almost 12 hours so it doesn't leave me any time to watch TV.

Which actors inspire you the most?

Aamir Khan and Bruce Wills. I was my dream to become a hero. I graduated from college with very good marks but I just wasted time. Then I joined the Hindustan Theater and auditioned for movies for a few times. Aamir Khans perfectionist behavior and hard work is what inspired me the most.


What attracted you to Dutta Shriram Patil's character?

I decided to do the role because it was interesting. Even though Dutta is a gangster and is sometimes violent, he is very kind and generous. He works for the poor and needy. He does good for the poor, just like a modern day Robinhood.

Yeah...MR decided to do some daya on his fans and finally talk to the media. He too seems pretty impressed by this gunpoint pe shaadi. 😆
Btw I didnt know his mom is marathi...no wonder he was talking abt getting poha for the cast members.

😆 His daya kabhi kabhi barasta hain. So I hope he's already done the daya and spoken to TB again when there was a chance.
