Shivani, no probs, more than happy to help you.
While I have no idea of UK market, I know that ford fiesta could be the best seller there. But if you want to buy a car for the first time, judge your requirements, like you need a car that you will drive yourself single or there will be a family to carry around etc, how many kilometers you cover, percentage of urban and highway driving etc.
Since UK attracts congestion charges, buy a car that is compact in size yet big inside on space and comfort. And I think that many people buy diesel cars there because of two factors-higher mileage and pulling power at low gears due to high torque of the engine. While in India I prefer the Japanese petrols (I drive the Honda jazz ) due to high reliability factors, you get a huge variety of small diesel options. You can check out the Ford Fiesta TDCi diesel or even the Hyundai I 20/ I 30 5 doors because of high warrenty there. Hyundai CRDi diesel cars rock!
I have never been a fan of vauxhall astra or corsa just because they do not feel anything special to me.
Vauxhall is actually German technology, that is it is basically an opel with a UK only name. In Europe, all opel cars are sold as opels whereas the same cars are sold in UK as vauxhalls.
I was tempted to recommend you the volkswagen polo but I still cannot trust VW for reliability factors.
Another option could be a Toyota Yaris, but its too outdated and with recent quality problems, concerning toyotas, hard to recommend.
Apart from this, if you can list me down your requirements as I mentioned in the first paragraph, I will be able to help you out better. Besides, do you want to go in for a brand new or a pre owned (second hand) car?
