'Bones': What to expect from the Season 6 premiere
Everyone at "Bones" knows what a watershed moment the start of Season 6 is for the series. It's evident from the first moments of the premiere, "The Mastodon in the Room," which we know -- because we just watched it.

The first "Bones" of the new season is always greeted by Zap2it with the kind of fervor most reserve for Christmas morning or Rex Manning Day, so you can imagine the scrambling to find the uninterrupted time and a quiet place that ensued when it found its way to us earlier today. Our thoughts, with only the lightest, most respectful spoilers, ahead...

Season 6 opens with a kind of cinematic grandeur and intensity that's almost disarming in how unfamiliar it is -- in a good way, of course. "Bones" has always operated within very clearly defined parameters. Even during Season 4's London outing, it all seemed to be a part of the series' very fixed world. And that world is now expanding, not just in locations, but in issues and character quirks we never saw coming.

So what can be shared about "The Mastodon in the Room" while honoring the metaphor-laden episode with the appropriate amount of ambiguity? Here are just a few tidbits.

Cam's situation:
While the Jeffersonian gang's return to save Cam's (Tamara Taylor) job is indeed about identifying a corpse, the specific case is not the reason her job's in jeopardy. What has her in hot water with the higher-ups will likely remain an issue throughout the season.

Intern deathwatch:
Earlier production claims of a squint death at the hands of Season 6's upcoming serial sniper, that were then sort of rescinded, seem less likely after having seen the premiere -- and not for the reason you'd expect.

A Parisian souvenir:
Alright, this one's a biggie, but given FOX's choice to reveal it in their most recent promos (see below), we feel obliged to acknowledge that the episode confirms Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins' (T.J. Thyne) speculated pregnancy.

The Mastodon is Hannah:
And she's still invisible. As Zap2it was first to report in July, Hannah (Katheryn Winnick) doesn't make her first official appearance until the second episode, so we're afraid you're going to have to slowly tug at that band-aid for a whole other week.

All in all, it's just a really fun season premiere that will entertain the fans tired of the romance and bait the rest of us still holding out for a Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) love connection.

Look at your calendars. September 23 is sooner than you think.

[quote]Let us jog your TV memory about these returning series
Bones , Fox
Thursday, 8 ET/PT
Premiere: Sept. 23

Where we left them: The investigative team at the Jeffersonian Institute went their separate ways in last season's finale, with Booth (David Boreanaz) off to train Afghan soldiers and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) headed to an Indonesian anthropological dig, accompanied by lab assistant Daisy (Carla Gallo). Newlyweds Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) head to Paris. "Everyone is exploring an alternate life, another path they could have taken," Deschanel says.

Where they're headed: About seven months later, the team members return to help Saroyan (Tamara Taylor) solve a case. Saroyan "has found herself in a bit of a dilemma," Deschanel says. "She is being criticized for not identifying the remains of a child. … We get rounded up to save her from being publicly humiliated." But things have changed. Booth has met a war correspondent (Katheryn Winnick), and they move in together. "It becomes a whole dynamic," Deschanel says. "Brennan is torn between loving him and wanting him to be happy."

Who's new:David Alan Grier guests as a children's TV personality. And when Brennan and Booth investigate a case in Jersey, they encounter a nightclub bouncer (Antonio Sabato Jr., General Hospital). Having mistaken a reality series for a documentary, Brennan "considers herself to be an expert (on) the culture, customs and vernacular of the guidos," Deschanel says. — Mike Snider

Ausiello Exclusive: FOX stages a Bones Crossover!
Methinks someone over at Bones is a closet reality TV addict. The Fox hit—which just wrapped production on a Jersey Shore-inspired episode—is now setting its sights on So You Think You Can Dance.

Although not an outright homage to Fox's summertime sleeper, the episode will take Booth and Brennan into the world of street performers and feature a guest appearance by SYTYCD MVP and burgeoning actor Stephen "tWitch" Boss.

The cycle 4 runner-up—who returned this past season as an all-star and took part in what was arguably one of the best hip-hop numbers in SYTYCD history—will play a suspect in the murder of a popular street entertainer.

Boss, whose Bones episode is slated to air in November, appeared in this summer's big-screen dance spectacle, Step Up 3D.

Bones Scoop - The Big Tease

What have you heard about Daisy returning to 'Bones'? – Smurfs
She's on hand for the Sept. 23 season premiere, have no fear. In fact, she brings rather humorous levity to the "guerillas" scene that Emily Deschanel referred to in this video Q&A. And then when Daisy and Sweets (attempt to) reconnect after the seven-month split? So much fun, I want these two to get their own spin-off.

What did you think of the 'Bones' premiere? I'm on the fence about this one. – Tanya
I was impressed by how angst-free it was, even as Bones and Booth came face to face after their seven-month separation. Instead, equal time was given to the Sweets/Daisy and Angela/Hodgins stories. Plus, I like how the workplace status quo has been altered just enough (right down to a dwindled number of squints) to freshen things up.

5 Reasons to Get Excited for the 'Bones' Season 6 Premiere
Friday, September 03, 2010

The sixth season of Bones returns Thursday, September 23 at 8pm on FOX, and it's every bit as good as you want it to be. While I will be careful to avoid any major spoilers about what happens in the episode, cleverly titled "The Mastadon in the Room," here are five reasons you should definitely tune in.

The Twist

At the end of season 5 Booth and Brennan went their separate ways and promised to meet back at the reflecting pool in one year. That doesn't exactly happen.

The Cell Phone Skank

If you've read any spoilers, you may know that Booth does not return from Afghanistan empty-handed. He spends a lot of time showing off a picture of his new lady on his cell phone and it will leave every true Bones fan begging to rip that phone out of his hands and break it into a million pieces.

The Squinterns

As much as I was looking forward to finding out what happened to the team after they went abroad, I was also curious and the team of interns, from Vincent Nigel-Murray to Wendell Bray and everyone in between. Luckily, in the premiere, we learn where they all are.

Sweet's New Look

For the most part everyone on the team looks exactly like they did at the end of season 5, except for Dr. Sweets. His experimentation with facial hair is interesting and, by the end of the premiere, it actually grew on me.

Booth and Parker

Everywhere you turn in the premiere there are references to parents and their children, particularly in the main case where the team has to identify the remains of a child. As much as I love the romantic Booth, watching him be a dad to Parker is even better. There's one scene between Booth and his son, Parker, eating breakfast that may not be integral to the plot, but it will certainly melt your heart and helps to show why Booth is so darn perfect.

There are plenty of other twists and turns in the premiere, but the big takeaway is that everything is very familiar, yet a little different. Jumping forward in time and splitting the team up for a while was a great way to make everything seem a little new and exciting, so it might take a few episodes to get back into the swing of things, but for now, taking a break from the procedural elements of the show puts the characters front and center.

New spoilers:

Keck's Exclusive spoilers!
When Angela (Michaela Conlin) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) return to D.C. from Paris in Bones' September 23 season premiere, they'll be bringing back a much better souvenir than a plastic Eiffel Tower trinket. "Angela's pregnant!" says Michaela, who planned to keep the exciting news secret until Fox's promo department included the spoiler in a preview clip. "I was bummed they decided to do that."

Well, at least now the actress is free to discuss the happy news. "I have to be honest, at first I was a little hesitant," she says. "To marry this wild child off and get her pregnant had me worried that this would limit her, story-wise. But I now feel, getting in to the sixth season, it's going to be interesting to see her try to fit her wild life into this maternal situation."

Since, as Michaela noted, Angela is such a wild child, who's to say that a handsome Frenchman isn't the baby daddy? "I am pretty convinced Hodgins is the dad," insists Michaela. "Only because we were just married. That would be very slutty of her. This time, I think she played it right."

The drama, she says, will come in other ways. "We're going to see them pursue very unconventional doctors," Michaela teases.

Bones creator Hart Hanson says we should also expect Angela's pregnancy to have an impact on Brennan (Emily Deschanel), who has seemingly abandoned her plans to have Booth (David Boreanaz) donate his sperm to her. "Everything that happens will force Brennan to reevaluate all of her decisions from last year," Hanson says. "We leave nothing hanging."
