Both are proud survivors of cancer, though neither knew about this initially when they started working together. While Barbara survived cancer, Anurag won his battle with leukemia a few years ago.
Revealing for the first time the profound bond that grew between them, Anurag says, "I had no idea Barbara had fought and conquered the same illness as me. We started chatting up on location and grew really fond of one another. It was then that Barbara told me about her illness and how she fought it."
After Barbara spoke to Anurag about her past illness Anurag too poured his heart out to her about his battle with leukemia. "From that point we became soul buddies," recounts Basu emotionally, sharing for the first time about how people who survive terminal illnesses bond on empathy.
Says Anurag, "I feel both Barbara and I have emerged stronger human beings after fighting our illnesses. It definitely makes you understand the world around you better. My best work came after my illness. That can't be a coincidence. When you fight death you understand life better. I'm sure it's true for Barbara as well."
