Kisne fans ko hawaa diya?
   By: Haem Roy
   May 24, 2005
HitList investigates how your favourite TV stars treat their fans on the sets. Haem Roy went undercover as a star-struck admirer and asked to pose with the actors for photographs. Read on to find out what happened next...
Sankraman Studios,
Goregaon, 3.45 pm

I entered as a press person as they don't allow fans inside the gates. I wasn't allowed inside the studios, so I went to the outdoor shoot.

While I was inside, the guard at the gate called me outside and asked a dozen questions, refusing to allow me back in unless I told him who I wanted to speak to; that person also had to vouch for me.

"It is a matter of security madam. If something happens, we will be in trouble," he said. I was finally directed to the manager and managed to convince him. Then I was allowed to go back in.
Anuj Saxena,
Kkusum set, 4 pm

I waited for the shot to finish and, as Anuj sat down, I started waving and asking for a picture. He smiled and agreed. Asking me questions about myself, he readily signed an autograph and posed for a picture.
Rajeev Khandelwal,
Kahiin To set, 4.30  pm

I waited while he came out of the studio and was literally mobbed by fans from Pakistan. He was nice to them, though he seemed a little fed up after five to six pictures, as they kept fussing. He spotted me and signalled for me to wait. He posed for a picture with me and asked if I was from Mumbai.

Chaitanya Chaudhary,
Kahiin To set, 4.40  pm

He too came out with Rajeev and faced his fans with a smile. He was more polite and willing.
Aamna Sharif,
Kahiin To set, 4.45  pm

She was conversing with the excited group from Pakistan and the same routine followed. When I asked for a picture, she agreed and even called out to Rajeev.

Picture taken, she joined her co-stars to chat. I lingered for a while, as there was no other shooting happening outside.
Chetan Hansraj,
Kahaani set, 5.30  pm

Not being allowed in at the shoot, I stood within sight of the place. As soon as I saw him,  I called out and mimed that I wanted a picture.

He smiled, turned towards me and obliged; he realised the security wouldn't allow me inside. Afterwards, he smiled whenever he spotted me — even at the canteen.
Manoj Bohra,
Kkusum set, 5.45  pm
He projected the image of someone unapproachable, so I hesitated. When I did ask him, he agreed. But he asked my cousin and I to pose together. And soon after, disappeared somewhere. A hint of attitude somewhere?
Rupali Ganguly,
In the studios , 6 pm

She was conversing with someone and she was without any make-up. Initially she said, "In this state? Ok, if you want to!" Then she asked if I would be around for another half hour, so she could come back with make-up. But I couldn't find her later. She was in a shoot and hence, no picture.
Saakshi Tanwar,
Kahaani set, 6.30  pm

It took a long time to meet her. I had spotted her a while back, and signalled. She said yes, but got busy with the shoot. When I returned from the security office, the production people spotted me and called me, despite protests from security.

They called Saakshi out for the pic. She apologised for making me wait. And said I should have posed with Amitabh Bachchan, who was there earlier (I missed him thanks to the security trouble!).
Aamir Ali and  Vandana Pathak,
in the studios, 6.45  pm

I spotted them conversing with Chetan. I waved; Chetan understood, and called to them. They were hesitant about the picture initially, but Aamir finally said yes. Vandana did not say anything. I got the picture and they resumed talking.
Aakraman Studios,
Goregaon, 7 pm
People at Sankraman told me shootings were also on at Aakraman next door. But they warned me not to go to the Kasautii set; they said the person in charge is usually drunk and misbehaves with everyone — even abuses the stars!

The security at Aakraman did not allow me in as a press person. But when the people I met at Sankraman came and said I was just a fan, I was allowed inside, but without my camera. I was taken on a tour of the sets of Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai. They even showed me the kitchen.
Mohammed Iqbal Khan,
Kaisa Ye set, 7.15  pm

The production guys took me to him and told him I wanted a picture.

The security intervened, but agreed when he said that the pic would be clicked outside and not on the sets. I also got an autograph. He seemed a bit lost and it was difficult to figure out whether it was tiredness or attitude!
The huddle: Kahiin To... cast gets cosy
Haem's TOP 5 finds of the day

1. Fans are treated politely; but it isn't easy to get in if you are a journalist (ouch)!

2. Most stars are considerate and willing to pose for their fans. Unless it's an off day!

3. The production teams are extremely helpful if they know you are fan. Atul called Saakshi and directed me to another shoot. Vicky helped me to meet Angad and even escorted me to a rick, because "the area is very unsafe. Even we are scared to roam here, there are murders happening every day."

Nice guy: Vicky
4.
The security is understandably tight. But fans are given some leeway.

5. If you want to meet the stars, you must have time on hand and be ready to juggle between the sets as per shooting schedules.

Kavita Kaushik to play tomboy on Dil Kya Chahta Hai

Kavita Kaushik, who recently quit Tumhari Disha, has some interesting roles in her kitty. The

New boy on the block: Kavita Kaushik
actress who has already entered the track of Kesar, and is all ready to leave for Hrishikesh to shoot for Sony's Paisa Bhari Padega, has now been inducted on to Star One's Dil Kya Chahta Hai. The show enters its last month of broadcast with the new reality act, Nach baliye going on air in the same slot from October onwards.

Speaking about her new character Kavita says, "Well I'm doing something that's completely opposite my real life personality. On the show I play the part of Nira, Nitin's girlfriend. She is a very presumptuous girl who is very bindaas and is seen around in dungarees and cargo clothes. She's just like the boys and loves to hangout with them."

"Comedy is always a refreshing change to the usual saas- bahu sagas. I don't have to have a lot of make up, I'm just one of the boys on the show, you see. Its all so hassle free and fun," says a visibly excited Kavita.

Well, after Samir Soni's exit from this show on metro sexual men, Kavita seems to have had it easy, blending in with the boys. "I've already become part of their pranks. They think they're too smart and are always up to some mischief, but these days it's like I'm the one who's pulling a fast one on them each time," she laughs. "I feel like I'm in school again actually, after being treated like such a child on the sets."

Kavita's track on the show goes on air from Thursday. She replaces Samir Soni, who after repeated calls spoke to Telly Chakkar. "The deal is that my contract on the show expired, so I've moved on. It was a good experience and now its time to bid adieu," sighs Samir.

The birthday girl with her family

It was a busy day for this birthday girl as she was shooting throughout the day. When we asked her about her day (looking for some complains, but found good cheer instead), she said, "I had a great time on the shoot. First, all my colleagues surprised me with a cake. I really enjoyed the cake they got for me. Later, while I was on the sets, my shooting team also surprised me with cake and gifts."

"By the end of the day, I had cut two cakes on the sets brought by my team. I was full of cake and couldn't have

Tina feeds her cousin: That's a mouthful for you!

Karishma Randhawa hurt in accident!

Karishma Randhawa found herself in an accident lately that cost her, er...her nose. The actress

Nose Injury: Karishma Randhawa
who stars as the lead in Star Plus'Hello Dollie and as Sangeeta Ghosh's sister in Rabba Ishq… was on a break and was driving home to Chandigarh from Delhi on the nineteenth of August, when she had a freak accident in her Ford Ikon.

"I was fiddling around with my music system while driving, and I didn't have my seatbelt on. All of a sudden the car ahead of me braked and I did not notice until the last moment. I slammed on the breaks and jerked my head, as a result, banged it on the dashboard and I ended up with bruises and a busted nose," recalls a shaken Karishma.

Incidentally, she felt that it was minor injury and her bleeding would stop in a few minutes. "I didn't realize how serious it was until my nose kept bleeding for a very long time. Luckily I knew a good doctor, rushed there and my nose was operated on immediately. By God's grace my nose did not get permanently disfigured," she declaims her experience.

This is not the first time Karishma has found herself in a car accident. She earlier used to drive a Maruti 800, which she crashed fairly bad at Film City, while returning from a shoot. "Oh! I keep having these entirely crazy accidents all the time. My previous car had to be sold in scrap!" she exclaims on a lighter note.

The actress is still on a break and will continue shooting from the start of next week. Here's hoping for her speedy recovery.

Is Tisca taking to booze?

Tisca Chopra's character experiences a twist in the daily political saga SAARKAR, the popular daily on Zee TV, Produced by Manish Goswami. The viewers have seen Urvashi

Tisca Chopra: taking on challenges!

(Tisca's character) as an ideal woman who is strong and believes in her virtues. This turn pertains to the betrayal of her faith by her husband, played by Ronit Roy.

"It's not usual to see a woman turning to alcoholism after such an emotional set back, "says Tisca. The lovely and talented Tisca who practises Buddhism in real life perceives the twist in the character as a challenge. A role that will help her hone and sharpen her histrionic skills further.

Tisca, who has been contemplating writing a book for five long years has been so busy shooting that she has not been able to write much. "There is nothing happening on the writing front...the only front that's happening is the work front!" laughs Tisca, as good friend

Tisca and Sakshi: men!

Sakshi Tanwar concedes, "I have been listening to Tisca for quiet some time that she is writing a book...but God knows when?"

As the two friends chat away while the Kahaani...party goes on around them --- they talk and laugh in a way that shows their familiarity with one another...and at a point in their lives that their characters face similar sutuations (betrayal), they prepare to play, perhaps, the most challenging shade in their acting careers

Bad girl Kavita now plays positive muse

Kavita Kaushik, who has quit Tumhari Disha has now moved on and added another serial to her Balaji portfolio with afternoon soap Kesar.

New avtar: Kavita Kaushik

Her first episode went on air last Wednesday and she seems to be going great guns with the show. Kavita, who had earlier spoken to Telly Chakkar, had said that she'd consider quitting Tumhari Disha if it didn't work well enough for her. Well, seems like she's stuck to her principles and moved on.

Now, after having parted amicably with Disha, Kavita goes on to play the part of a princess in Kesar. "The part is extremely exciting. I'm a princess who's into the Art of Living and Vastu Shastra. She can also read people's faces and do other such things," she describes her part on the show. "My character goes on to create a lot of twists and turns in the lives of the other characters on the show. So I'm really looking forward to a good experience working with them," she adds.

Kavita, who has lately played mostly negative shades, will now be seen playing a positive character. "It's a very stylized positive character they have given me. Currently it's a cameo, and I don't know whether it will be extended or not. All I can say is viewers will see a lot of different nuances to this character."

'Kahaani...' loses its 1000 episode wardrobe

On 26 July Balalji telefilms lost a piece of its own history.

The cast of Star Plus' 'Kahaanii Ghar Ghar Kii'

Images of jwellery laden Parvati in her heavily embroidered lehenga, will keep reminding the team of what they have lost forever. Perhaps the most nostalgic would be Nim Sood, who has designed them.

"We have lost all the costume and the jwellery that we had used for the shoot in Jodhpur and it's a pity. You know I won't be able to use them again. They were really special," says Nim, who has been the resident designer for Balaji shows.

The costumes were all stored in Sankraman studios and the petis containing the costumes

The trunks containing some of the costumes of the show that was salvaged by the crew

floated away into the nearby gutter and thus could not be salvaged. Reportedly, Balaji house lost close to Rs 3 million worth of clothing due to the rains. Although our sources tell us that they were insured, the loss seems more of sentimental value.

"Yes, it is sad. But I think that it is by od's grace that none of the cast or the crew members was hurt. There are some things that cannot be foreseen. This is just one of those situations," sighs Nim, who herself was ready for an emergency like this. "I have clothes that I can provide to all my cast. I have no problems coping; it's just that I am very busy nowadays. But I have been doing this for such a long time that it comes easy to me!" laughs Nim.

Parvati and Anjali have a date with death!

Drama sells! Perhaps more so if it comes from Ekta's stable.

Anjali: trying times ahead!

In what can be called a coup of sorts, Ekta Kapoor and Star Plus have decided to merge the storylines of their two hugely popular shows, Kahanii Ghar Ghar Ki and Kkavyanjali.

With TRPs touching around 11 and 9 respectively, the tracks of both the shows are poised at a very dramatic point. On one hand, Nitya (Amrita Singh) is hell bent on teaching Anjali a lesson and on the other, Pallavi is out to get Parvati --- both the shows will merge in a very fast action packed one hour special episode of Kkavyanjali and Kahani...on 12 July, from 9:30 to 10:30 pm.

"This was entirely Ekta's idea," says Star India creative director, Shailja Kejriwal, rubbishing Ekta's efforts to tell us otherwise.

The episodes in question will be high on action as the two protagonists will be pursued and a murder will be attempted. There will be an element of suspense that will be finally revealed in the next half.

Alan Amin, who shot the now famous scene of Ansh's death in Kyunki...will be shooting the fight sequence here too. "It will involve a lot of drama which will be very fast paced. Which of the two gets shot is the suspense," says a visibly excited Ekta.

Parvati: will she be the one?

Will the treatment be any different, we ask - "No, we have kept our basic format intact. There will be loads of action. There will be a ticker running throughout the episode and in the background we will have the usual family celebrations going on. The characters of the two shows will come together," says Ekta, who has planned to shoot a sequence with four bikes and a car on the highway.

There is a very special shot that Ekta is very excited about - "There is a sequence whereby the bullet comes towards the camera and the episode ends there...and we don't know who his hit! That was a great shot," says Ekta.

Great shot or not, Balaji is on a roll...all their shows are going great guns, and it is only a matter of time, when they leave all their competition behind...if they haven't already...

Rupali to do horror now

Rupali Ganguli to be seen in a new Avtar as Shonali on Raat Hone Ko Hai. So what is her character? "To be very honest I haven't done even one shot. But I guess it is about this haunted house, where I land up, god knows from where in this rain."

Rupali: "I love horror shows"
"This happens to be my first horror show. But from the very beginning I am a great horror show fan.

Ahaat happens to be my favourite. And once I watch these shows I really feel very scared. Trust me on that. And my mother has a tough time then."

Remember the pandit, in Tere Naam. Saurabh Dubey, plays Balwant, the ghost and is the head of the family. "I don't think anyone will be able to recognize me in this makeup.

His character is of a ghost who takes the body of a human being." He has been part of many horror shows like BP Singh's Ahaat.

And will be soon seen in Prakash Jha's film yet to be titled. And Priyadarshan's Rahe Na Rahe Hum where he plays the priest.

Saurabh: "No one will recognize me with my makeup"

Director Ankush finds the thematic concept interesting. "It will suit the mood of the audiences." And he is all set to rock his audiences with his directorial debut "Jane Kya Hoga" with Aftab and Bipasha next month.
