November 11- more commonly referred to as Remembrance Day (Canadians), Veteran's Day (Americans,) or Armistice Day. November 11 marks the anniversary of the symbolic end of World War I. The date was declared a national holiday in many allied nations, to commemorate those members of the armed forces who were killed during war.
In more simpler words, November 11 is the day where nations across the globe take a few minutes to remember those who have lost their lives to bring us World Peace. Often times, we take for granted our current way of life, our freedom to participate in cultural and political events, and our right to live under a government of our choice. We often forget that life wasn't always like this.
We are blessed to have been brought up in a world that our ancestors have fought day and night for. We are blessed to feel safe while stepping out of the house. We are blessed for so many things, for the various opportunities that not everybody has. Let us be thankful for all of those things, and appreciate those who have made living a safe life possible for us.
They were someones' son, daughter, father, mother, grandparent. They were, are, and will always be the real heroes who have fought and lost their lives for a great purpose. Because of them, we are where we stand today. We can experience the freedom that they never did. Let us appreciate that freedom.
In honour of those heroes, wear a poppy. For more information about the story and symbol behind the poppy, please CLICK HERE
Please take a few moments of silence to remember those who have fought for us.
