Starting November, Shahid Kapoor will take nine months off to prepare and shoot for his father Pankaj Kapur's out-and-out

It's final. Shahid Kapoor will be taking nine months off starting this November to work on his father Pankaj Kapur's first directorial venture, Mausam. Since Shahid wants to give all his time to Pankaj Kapur's film, he won't do any other film until July 2010.

Mausam is an out-and-out romantic film to be shot in five countries - Austria, the UK, Spain, Italy and India. Shahid will start shooting for the film in the last week of January 2010.

A reliable source says, "Though there is still some time before the shooting starts, Shahid will begin preparing for the film long before January 2010. He has been urging his father to direct a film for many years. In fact, if Shahid had his way, his debut would've been with his father's film. But Pankaj likes to work at his own pace and only with those he's comfortable with. They've found the right producer now."

Pankaj Kapur's directorial debut will be produced by Religare Vistaar Entertainment.

"The romantic film's screenplay, written by Pankaj Kapur, spreads over 10 years," adds a source.

A new girl for whom an all-India hunt will begin soon will be launched with Shahid in Mausam. Commenting on the kind of girl the filmmakers are looking for, the source says, "The girl has to be fresh-faced, innocent, virginal and has to have a never-seen-before quality."

Sheetal Talwar, chairman and managing director of Religare, confirms the news and says, "I'm not denying any of what you've heard but I'm not at liberty to talk about it at the moment."

So they haven't finalized casting yet? In another article they said they did. I don't mind someone not so familiar for a change of things. Personally, I don't see why some experience is a bad thing referencing serials. There can be hype created without that factor.

Well he's still going to have 2-3 releases next year - possibly 4 - there's Dance Pe Chance, YRF movie with Anu and his dad's...plus Paathshaala whenever that releases! He's got a TON of movies lined up hahah including Milenge Milenge...whenever THAT releases loll

Yes, he'll still have three-four movies releasing during that time span. Milenge Milenge, Chance Pe Dance, Paathshaala, and Parmeet Sethi's Next. Not to worry. :)

This is like Shahid's dream project, honestly. He's always wanted to work with his father. Secondly, he's always expressed a desire to play a role that spans over time. Pankaj, I'm trusting you to pick the right newcomer for the role. If the heroine is lacking, the film will lack.

What I'm majorly worried about is the budget of the film. I never thought the budget would be an issue, but if they're shooting in five different countries, then the budget will escalate greatly. I love Shahid, but I honestly don't think he has the star power as of yet to be able to earn money for one of those 50 crore projects. Even though Kaminey was 35 crore and it earned a gross amount of 80 crores [net of ~45 crores], people called it a semi-hit. What on earth will happen to this film then?
