Two years after he directed the film Hattrick, which bombed at the box office, Milan Luthria is back with Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. And this time, he's stayed away from the subject of cricket and moved on to something more sinister: gangsters.
The film will show Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi sharing screen space together for the first time. If that's not enough, to add in the necessary sex appeal, Milan's roped in Kangna Ranaut and Prachi Desai.
Once Upon A Time In Mumbai is reportedly based on the lives of gangsters Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim, whose characters will be enacted by Devgan and Hashmi respectively. However, Milan denies this, saying, "It was reported in the media that the film is based on Haji Mastan and Dawood Ibrahim, but that's not true. Though the film is set in the 70s, it is contemporary and not based on any particular gangster. In fact, it focuses on every gangster from the 70s (1970s), rather than just being a biopic of these two."
The director is extremely secretive about his shooting schedules as well as the release date of his film. However, he was willing to speak about Kangna Ranaut and Prachi Desai being part of the film, saying, "Keeping today's viewers in mind, glamour has become an important part of cinema. At the same time, I wanted to make sure we didn't compromise on performances."
Prachi Desai will star opposite Emraan, tagged a 'serial kisser' because of his intimate scenes in films. But Prachi refuses to be added to the long list of girls kissed by Hashmi, saying, "I will not be doing any sort of intimate scenes in the film. If they wanted someone to do those scenes, they shouldn't have chosen me to act; there are many other actresses willing. I will never do steamy scenes onscreen."
The film is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures along with Popcorn Entertainment. Major portions of the movie have been shot in Mumbai. Other scenes were filmed in Vishakhapatnam, Dubai and Bangkok.
