Chemistry: She is his first heroine - nobody can take away that privilege! It was Aamir's first film and Juhi's second, but both actors perfectly matched the innocence that was required of the characters. And the audience couldn't have enough of Aamir-Juhi. But consequent films of the hot pair flopped, until comic love stories Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Ishq broke the jinx. Films: Dil, Deewana Mujhsa Nahin

Chemistry: A film with many twists and turns in typical Indra Kumar style, Dil needed competent actors to do justice to the roles. So, whether it was Aamir and Madhuri's fierce on-screen fights in the first half, or their intense love for each other in the latter, Dil was what the lovelorn public had been looking for. Aamir and Madhuri Dixit had been paired for the first time, and thus, it helped the film to have a fresh look. Dil was such a big hit that an extra song, Dum Duma Dum, was added to keep the audiences coming in.

Films: Baazi

Chemistry: Rumour mills were running overtime about Aamir and Mamta's torrid affair during the shooting of this film. While we still don't know if it was true, we sure know that their hot number in the film gave away their intimacy big time. So much so that Aamir never dared to work with Mamta again! Films: Sarfarosh

Chemistry: This unusual pairing (like Asin, Sonali is taller than Aamir) worked because the film was a hit. Although Sonali's character doesn't have much to do in the climax, the few scenes and songs she has with Aamir were enough to pull the crowds in, including the sexy number Jo haal dil ka.

Rani Mukerji

Films: Ghulam, Mangal Pandey

Chemistry: Ghulam and its heroine Rani Mukerji got all the attention thanks to the number Ae, Kya Bolti Tu. Rani was very young when Ghulam was made. Aamir the thorough gentleman befriended her and guided her through it. The result – a hit film with intense acting. The two stars have maintained their friendship, although Rani is close to SRK too.

Preity Zinta

Films: Dil Chahta Hai

Chemistry: Aamir Khan and Preity Zinta looked like they were made for each other in this one. Akash and Shalini of Dil Chahta Hai represented the rich, uber cool youth of today with their own set of issues and complications. There were, of course, rumours of an off-screen affair between Aamir and Preity, but we never saw them together in a film again.

Chemistry: The two films that Manisha and Aamir did together, flopped at the box office. Probably because the scripts were not compelling enough. But fans were still ready for another film, as Mana and Aamir simply looked too good as a pair.

Films: Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin

Chemistry: The film was a remake of It Happened One Night, and filmgoers had seen a similar story in the Raj Kapoor-Nargis Chori Chori. And yet, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin seemed like a fresh love story, thanks to the chemistry between Pooja Bhatt and Aamir. There were some very memorable scenes in the movie – like that part where she gets the melon seed off his face or that other one where his cigarette falls off when they're dancing to Kishore Kumar's Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke number in a garage. The film was a superhit, and Aamir and Pooja's alleged affair continued for a while. Pooja Bhatt had gone on record to say that her "chemistry with Aamir can't be repeated". We know that's true.
